The 5 best arcs in the game, ranked

So, you’ve started another Skyrim theatrical show. You weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each build and naturally decide to create another stealth archer. Fear not, the majority of the player base has decided the same. We here at DualShockers wouldn’t want to mess up an unprepared distance, so we’ve shortlisted the best arcs available across Skyrim (and Solstheim).

Skyrim has a lot of arcs, so narrowing it down to five of the best wasn’t easy. Before we get started, some honorable mentions include Zephyr, Dragonbone’s base bow, and Stalhrim’s bow. Without further ado, here are the five best arcs in Skyrim.

5. The glass bow of the deer prince

The glass bow of the Stag Prince’s name is a reference to Daedric Prince Hircine, which is fitting considering that this bow was purchased at Solstheim, the site of the deadly blood moon. You can get this unique glass arch from Dunmer Falas Selvayn dealer at Ramshackle Trading Post on Solstheim’s south side. It only appears if you enter the area between 12 am and 6 am, then waiting will not cause it to appear. Sometimes he has the bow equipped and not for sale, in this case, there are many ways to separate characters from their weapons in Skyrim.

This bow has decent damage but its main attraction is its stacking magic. The arc gives the welder five additional health and stamina points for every 20 animals killed using it, and stack up to five times. This means that for maximum enchantment, you will get an additional 25 points of stamina and health. This fat magic combined with the damage of the high bow base makes the deer glass bow one of the most formidable in Skyrim.

4. Gauldur Black Bow

The Gauldur Black Bow is one of four artifacts that you can recover during the “Forbidden Legend” quest. To start this quest, simply read a copy of the book “Lost Legends” which can be found in many places around Skyrim. The bow can be found precisely in the Geriumund Hall used by the very powerful Drager Sigdis Gauldurson. Sigdis has access to a cry of relentless strength, so be careful not to get scammed during the fight. Once you eliminate this archenemy, you will be rewarded with a Gauldur Black Bow.

While Black Bow has an average base damage condition, as with weapons in Skyrim, the power lies in magic. This bow is the quintessential anti-mage weapon, absorbing magical magic from your enemies with every arrow fired. With a large percentage of the enemies they encounter being enchanted, the Gauldur Black Bow is always worth having in the back pocket, or wherever the Dragonborn stores a variety of merchandise that they keep on their person at all times.

3. The Arch of Uriel

Obtaining this bow takes the Dragonborn on a long journey. However, given that Auriel’s Bow has the ability to block out the sun or make it explode, we think it’s only fair that you went through some hardship to get it. Auriel’s bow is obtained by completing the penultimate mission in Dawnguard’s main mission line, “Touching the Sky”. So, you’ll have to fight your way through the Forgotten Vale to get it.

While the primary damage is on the lower side, its magic makes the difference. Auriel’s Bow deals 20 points of sun damage and deals triple damage to the undead. This thing is invaluable when clearing the Drager-infested rubble. It also has one of the fastest defect speeds of any arc, only being outdone by the Zephyr. Using the Sunhallowed Arrow or Bloodcursed arrows can make the sun explode or disappear respectively, which is neat.

2. Nightingale’s Arc

The signature bow chosen for Nocturnal’s, The Nightingale Bow packs quite a punch. You get this bow from Karliah after completing one of the last quests of the Thieves Guild, “Blindsighted”. Remember that everything in Skyrim corresponds to the level, so if you want this arc to be at maximum power, get it after level 46.

The Nightingale Bow is among the highest base damage in the game, with powerful magic to boot. “Storm at the Nightingale” deals extra damage to frost and shock, and adds a lot of damage to a smoothbore weapon. With some of the highest base damage in the game and a powerful destructive magic, the Nightingale Bow is one of the best bows available for Dovahkiin.

1. Black Fate Arc of Fate

The Dwarven Black Destiny Bow is a truly legendary weapon. In order to obtain this incredibly powerful tool, you must collect chime stones through Solstheim to open the portals within the Dwemer Ruin Kagrumez. When collecting gems and solving desolation puzzles, you can find the Dwarven Black Bow of Fate sitting on a shelf near its end.

This arc contains one of the most powerful magics in Skyrim and Solstheim for that matter. For each arrow shot, there is a chance to drain 25 Health, Magica Energy, and/or Stamina from the target. For each attribute, the chance is 50% which means that each shot has three individual checks that you make when the hit lands. Despite having bows with higher base damage and faster defect speeds, this amazing magic makes Dwarven Black Bow of Fate the most powerful in Skyrim.
