Nintendo launches an unexpected new Switch subscription service

Nintendo just launched an unexpected new subscription service linked to the Nintendo Switch. At this point, subscription platforms have become pervasive in the video game space between PlayStation Plus, Xbox Game Pass, and Nintendo Switch Online. And while each of these services offers gamers the ability to access specific games found on each platform, this new subscription now released by Nintendo is something those who worry about damaging their console will be willing to pay for it.

To start in July, Nintendo open On its website it now offers a service for the Switch that it calls “Wide Care”. Essentially, Wide Care is a program that will allow Switch owners to pay a small annual fee to ensure the console is covered by a warranty. If a console malfunctions or there is a problem of some sort, Wide Care subscribers will be able to mail their Switch to Nintendo and let the company fix it. Overall, this software costs around $15 per year or $1.50 per month, which is not bad at all.

The main caveat with Wide Care at the time of writing is that it is a service that Nintendo only provides in Japan. So if you reside in the United States, Europe, or any other regions, you cannot sign up for Wide Care for yourself. However, the fact that Nintendo has ever released a program like this could mean that it may be planning a larger global rollout in the future. If you end up with such an announcement, we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop here at ComicBook.com.

How do you feel about seeing Nintendo start a new warranty subscription program like this for Switch consoles? And if this is something that has ended up in other countries outside of Japan, are you looking to sign up yourself?
