The Hawk and The Winter Soldier nearly made a major upgrade to Captain America’s shield

through time The Hawk and the Winter Soldier Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) wrapped up his first season, and settled into his role as the new Captain America, donning the stars and stripes in place of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers. It came in a red, white, and blue suit designed by Dora Milaje of Wakanda, which features high-tech gadgets and tools throughout.

At one point, the almost iconic character armor got an upgrade that would produce a force field for those huddled under it. Although it has reached the concept stage for each Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Series ArtThe filmmakers behind the series chose to cancel it.

“Rayan [Meinerding] order some of [Visual Development] section to take a little time and think about some new ways that Sam could use the shield, more specific to him and his body with him…”, artist Wesley Burt revealed in the book (via direct). “When I was thinking about the tech edge piece, I was looking for a way to add an item to the shield minimally so it wouldn’t distract too much from the shield itself but still feel like it could have a believable tech addition and hint at Wakandan upgrades before you even see it used “.

Burt added that he drew inspiration from the shields used by the Wakandan Frontier Tribe in Black Panther And the Avengers: Infinity War.

“I also wanted to think of other ways that could emphasize the defensive nature of the shield itself and not just look for new ways to use it as a weapon,” the painter continued. “I immediately thought of the different shield technique that the Border Tribe and their blue-headed shields are using, as well as the great blocking shield around Wakanda itself, as a starting point for how to implement it here…”
