Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness It recently hit streaming, giving viewers a whole new opportunity to experience the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie version of the Marvel Comics set The Illuminati may be the most unexpected, as the set is made up of a number of amazing Marvel characters. Among them was a new version of Charles Xavier/Professor X (Patrick Stewart), who was from the alternate universe of Earth-838 along with the other members of The Illuminati.
While this version of Professor X may be from a new angle from the Marvel multiverse, his wardrobe seemed aesthetically inspired by the version from X-Men: The Animated Series, complete with green suit and yellow wheelchair. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com‘s phase zero audio notation, The multiverse of madness Fashion designer Graham Churchard spoke about these Animated series Influences, and how it originated from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
Churchill revealed: “We made his suit. Yes, he was very happy.” “This was something from Kevin [Feige’s] Childhood, Animation series, with a bright yellow dodgem car type. Do you call them dodgems? Do you call them bumper cars? Kind of a fair ground, kind of wheelchair-like ride. This was something he was in. Animation series, and it came as, “Yes, we do this.” So the guys really built that up, and we shot it in London with double shots. Then when it comes to more [photography], they swapped it out on Patrick Stewart, to match the edit they already made. They edited, so work with him was then ramped up as is. But yeah, it was a great picture, the green suit, the striped tie and the white shirt. I mean, Kevin was over the moon because we were wearing the green suit.”
Churchyard also revealed how Professor X’s costume had an amazing personal connection to Stewart’s real-life history.
‘This was made in London,’ added Crouchard, ’cause there’s a tailoring shop – we used some fine Yorkshire wool fabrics. “I worked with Patrick Stewart a few years ago, and then we took a short trip down memory lane. And in fact, his mother worked in the Yorkshire wool trade in England, so he was really glad he was wearing something that came from his mother’s kind of heritage working in the industry” .
I did a proper zoom with him at his home in Los Angeles, [and then] Some guys from Marvel Studios sent in there, “Churchard explained. I was talking to him while they were installing things. That was it all in COVID. We did several installations by Zoom.”
