Season 4 of Virgin River has booked a release date on Netflix — and it’s just weeks away. The fourth season will be the biggest part of the romantic drama to date, comprising of 12 episodes. The season 4 trailer has just been dropped and shows off some very complex dynamics between the characters.
Virgin River follows midwife and nurse practitioner Mel Monroe, who moves to a small rural town from Los Angeles. When she settles down, she falls in love with ex-bar owner/Marin Jack (Martin Henderson). Meanwhile, Mel works at the clinic owned by Doc Mullins (Tim Matheson), although the two sometimes lock horns.
Virgin River season 3 ended with Mel confessing her pregnancy to Jack. But who is this child? Mel had just returned from a trip to Los Angeles, where she decided to use the remains of an embryo made from her deceased husband. Then again, it’s possible that Jack will be the father – and he has three children in the future (including twins with ex Charmaine).

Explanation of the Virgin River season 4 and the end of the third season
Virgin River’s fourth season will have quite a few leads to pick up, following the end of the park-filled third season. Here is a summary of the questions likely to drive the main events of Season 4:
Who is the father of Mel’s child?
Mel and Jack were initially reunited, but got a positive result from a pregnancy test. When Jack tries to propose, Mel tells him she’s pregnant, but the baby may not be his.
Will Jack lose custody of his unborn children?
Charmaine throws a bomb at Jack – she and Todd are married. She would like Todd to have full custody of the twins she is expecting. It looks like Jack will need to find power of attorney money to hire the family lawyer he met earlier in the season.
Did Brady shoot Jack?
Brady has previously admitted that he was at the bar the night Jack was shot, but has vehemently denied shooting his ex-boyfriend. Brie was ready to believe it, but then Mike found a gun in Brady’s car. Will Berry the lawyer help him prove his story?
Is the preacher okay?
The preacher receives word from Paige’s friend, Sally, that Paige wants to turn herself in to the authorities for accidentally killing her evil ex-husband. The preacher wants to get her out of it, because her young son, Christopher, is going to be put into a nursing home. However, Sally appears to drug Preacher, expels him and leaves him in the woods. Meanwhile, the ex-husband’s brother, Vince, lurks at home waiting for Christopher.
Will hope survive?
During the season, Hope was stuck away from home looking after her older relative. When she finally made it back, she had a horrific car accident that left her with a brain injury. She is placed in a medical coma, but the infection further puts her life at risk.
Who is Doc’s grandson?
A young man appears at the inn and tells Jo Ellen that he is looking for his grandfather – a Doc! But Doc and Hope did not have children. Could it be the product of Doc’s long relationship with Charmaine’s mother?
What will happen to Lizzie and Ricky?
Ricky was accepted into the Marines. When he finally told his girlfriend Lizzie, she said she would have supported him. But now, she can’t trust him. Meanwhile, former Parker returns to Lizzie and declares his love.
The official Netflix synopsis reveals some anecdotes: “Despite not knowing whether her child belonged to her deceased husband, Mark or Jack, Mel started Season 4 with a sense of optimism. For years she longed to be a mother and her dream one step closer to reality, While Jack is supportive and enthusiastic, the issue of fatherhood still bites him in. Complicating matters is the arrival of a handsome new doctor, who is on the market to start a family of his own.
Hope is still recovering from the car accident, and the ongoing psychological effects of her brain injury will have devastating consequences for her and Dr. Berry, bent on proving the innocence of the man she loves, unexpectedly finding herself in a closer relationship with Mike and one step closer to Calvin’s violent criminal network. Even as Preacher forges a new romantic relationship, he can’t help but hold out hope for his reunion with Christopher and Page.
