Details and images from the canceled VR Halo have surfaced online. The Halo franchise is very broad. Although it was little more than a launch title for the original Xbox, it quickly evolved into a massive entertainment franchise that transcends gaming. Microsoft and Bungie chose to expand the world with Halo books that introduced more Master Chief adventures, explored new characters, expanded the world, and much more. Although some games like access to aura Controversially taking liberties and ignoring canon of books, they are still a big part of IP. The series went on to expand with a movie at one point, but was canceled, and later evolved into a TV series on Paramount+. Halo even received arcade games that can be found everywhere.
According to a new leak, Halo almost made the leap to VR. According to Rebs Gaming, Halo almost had the VR title in 2017. 343 Industries were exploring the concept, but dropped it due to challenges in developing VR games and a limited user base. He also conducted 343 interviews with a number of developers who showed promise, but none of them seemed to be able to justify actually making the game. A number of photos have been leaked from the indoor playground along with images of the concepts and while there are no story details, it looks like it would have revolved around Master Chief in some capacity. The game also has some unique ideas for solving traversal inside virtual reality, such as giving the player a jet pack. Some footage of Halo using VR has also surfaced, but it looks more like a mod of Halo that shows what would be possible if a proper game was made.
The Halo Infinite Virtual Reality project called Reverie which 343 thought of creating in 2017 but was not due to the tough challenges with VR and limited VR users. In the end, it seems unlikely that this will ever be achieved because Xbox has expressed skepticism about virtual reality. Perhaps if the PlayStation VR2 is so far successful, Xbox may reconsider the possibility of VR and it is likely that they will want to invest in Halo VR. It remains to be seen if it will happen or not, but it looks like there is something fans might devour given all the possibilities for Halo VR.
