Michael Cera Talks About Paws Of Anger: The Legend of Hank

In the upcoming animated movie Paws of Rage: The Legend of HankMichael Cera plays Hank, an unlucky hound who wants to be a samurai and finds himself in a town full of cats in need of a hero to defend it from a ruthless villain (Ricky Jervis) who plots to wipe their village off the map. Hank finds himself turning to a reluctant guide (Samuel L. Jackson) to become the city’s hero, but there’s a problem: This is a world of cats and dogs a cat hates. Loosely inspired by the famous 1974 Mel Brooks movie blazing saddlesHank finds himself on a wild ride – and for Cera, one of the things I love about playing Hank is that he’s a character who simply doesn’t give up.

“I think I have enjoyed the most that he is very stubborn and never gives up on his dreams, in the face of all this prejudice he has,” Serra said. ComicBook.com. “I really like that he keeps the track, keeps going and beats all odds.”

Among these possibilities are cats versus dogs of all things. Since the world of Paws of Fury is one where cats don’t quite love or even respect dogs, Hank not only faces the challenge of learning to become a samurai and save his new village, but he also has to overcome preconceptions about dogs. For Cera, the film and Hank’s journey provide positive messages of acceptance, messages he believes everyone can benefit from.

“I think it’s a really smart way to get that message across, especially to kids, in a way that’s very digestible, it’s cats and dogs. And they don’t get along, or that cats just hate the dog because that’s the way it is,” he said. “But once they start to open up about themselves and see all that This dog can do for them and what a good heart he has, they learn to accept him and bring him into their barn.”

He continued, “I think that’s beautiful. Yeah. I think that’s a really good thing, especially for children, even though we’re different, we can all live in harmony.”

Directed by Rob Minkoff, Marc Quetsier, and Chris Bailey. Paws of Rage: The Legend of Hank It also stars Ricky Jervis, Mel Brooks, George Takei, Asif Mandvi, Gabriel Iglesias, Djimon Hounsou, Michelle Yeoh, Kylie Koyoka, Kathy Shim, and Samuel L. Jackson. Opens in theaters July 15.
