The Nintendo Wii Store is finally back

The Nintendo Wii Store has made a big comeback after being offline for several months. The Wii Store is one of Nintendo’s most significant innovations. Before the Wii, there weren’t a lot of online components for previous Nintendo consoles and there certainly wasn’t anything like an online store that players could access. Sadly, the Wii Shop was destroyed in 2019, ensuring that no one can buy any games from it anymore, but it has remained active so players can continue to download games they previously purchased. With that said, the app has been out for several months on the Wii for “maintenance,” but had no real explanation for what that maintenance was and when or if it would ever come back.

Well, with absolutely no notice, Nintendo revived the Wii Store earlier this week. GameXplain has noticed the store’s return, which has helped fans rejoice with their purchased games coming back to them. Of course, fans still can’t buy the games, so this is purely a tool for those who already own their titles. Although a number of Wii games have made their way to the Wii U or Nintendo Switch, there are still plenty of games that are only available through the Wii, including some Virtual Console games. With that said, fans shouldn’t hold their breath at being able to access these forever. Nintendo has stated that one day the Wii Store will disappear completely, taking all undownloaded games with it. While this can be disappointing, this is a must for these types of digital stores given what it takes to maintain servers and licenses for something that few players still have access to.

However, we can still appreciate the Wii Store right now and enjoy its glory until Nintendo decides to officially eliminate it once and for all. Wii Shop music has become popular online, making its way into countless videos and parodies over the years. That legacy will surely continue after he is truly gone.
