Joe and Anthony Russo have a new movie — The Gray Man, starring Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling — out right now, and of course, the unwanted press is full of people asking if they’ll be back at Marvel again. And as they’ve been saying nonstop since 2019, the duo say they’re interested in the possibility of adapting covert wars…but doing so would be a huge undertaking. Since Avengers: Endgame, reports have been circulating that Secret Wars might be the next big thing in the MCU, and ever since those rumors started, word has been on the street that Russos are still the favorites to lead such a project.
Marvel has actually had two secret wars, with similar but distinct concepts. Originally, heroes and villains from across the Marvel Universe were summoned to battle each other under the command of a cosmic force known as The Beyonder. In the second, heroes and villains from across the multiverse, including fan-favorite alternate universe stories like Age of Apocalypse, come to battle as the multiverse begins to collapse in on itself, with “incursions” – invading elements from other universes – lead chaos.
“Our love for Marvel is based on the books we read as children, the ones we fell in love with,” Joe Russo told Deadline. “The only series we loved growing up was Secret Wars. It’s an incredibly ambitious series; it’s going to be bigger than Infinity War and Endgame, but it’s a huge undertaking, and those two films were very difficult to do, so try to imagine making two more films that are bigger than these?” We’ll have to sleep on it.”

with Spider-Man: There’s no way home And the Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness Introducing alternate universes and dealing with invasions, fans have speculated that the path to Secret Wars is currently going on.
From these and previous comments from Roussos, it kind of looks like they’re out there – even with some reservations – if Kevin Feige decides he’s ready to pull the trigger on two incredibly massive secret wars Movies. If they do, it will be interesting to see who will return from the previous films – both inside and outside the main MCU canon.
