“They brought so much of themselves into Kamala’s story”

Iman Filani was recently asked during a Vogue magazine Interview if the series’ nods to South Asian culture have changed the way she views her relationship to her own heritage:

“I just have a new appreciation for the whole culture and how vibrant, colorful and luxurious everything is. Brown people have so much fun I don’t know if I’ve realized that. [laughs]. I mean, my family is fun, but before that, I only had my family and friends to look at as examples.”

She continued, “But now, I know all these incredibly talented creators – our producers, writers, directors at Ms. Marvel – who come from Muslim backgrounds from South Asia and have brought so much of themselves into Kamala’s story. I didn’t realize there could be this space to South Asia in this industry.”

Will Kamala return for the second season of Mrs. Marvel?
