Gremlins director claims Disney stole Baby Yoda idea from Gizmo

WWhen the whole world first saw Baby Yoda, many of the younger generation did not immediately discover the similarities with another beloved character from the history of the movie. But folks who grew up in the ’90s did, we saw it right away and thought the new Star Wars character could easily be Gizmo’s cousin.

You know, the little furry fluff from the “Gremlins” movie franchise. But no one saw him much until today, when Gremlins director Joe Dante accused Disney of stealing the design. Impossible to see Grogu and not immediately think of Gizmo, they are too similar to ignore.

Speaking to The San Francisco Chronicle, Dante spoke candidly about the blatant theft he believes Disney made. Here’s what he said: “I think the longevity of (the ‘Gremlins’ movies) is really key to this lonely character (Gizmo), who’s basically child-like. Which of course brings me to the topic of Baby Yoda, who’s totally stolen and completely copied. I unashamedly think “.

This is such a serious accusation that without having any kind of proof, Disney could easily get into a legal battle over it or at least it could respond publicly. However, there is evidence contrary to Dante’s words coming from Jon Favreau himself.

Grogu came from ET?

During a Disney+ show called “Disney Gallery”: The MandalorianFavreau provided more insight into the real inspiration behind it Grogo And the whole process. Here’s what he said: “Dave did a sketch of some sort of Michelangelo/ETT moment, and that was a source of inspiration. Then Doug Chiang and the entire art department started creating sketches of it, and [Effects] Build it people.

“Finally, there was one picture that Chris Allmans did that had him wrapped up in what looked like a piece of a flight jacket. His eyes were a little weird, and he looked a little further away from her, there was something weird in them. But we found her charming, and it became that crowd picture we said,” That’s good.” And it evolved from there.
