When you think of horror and anime, the only name that will routinely pop up is Junji Ito, the manga who has spent years creating some of the scariest stories in not just the manga universe, but the horror period universe. While Toonami is currently working on an animated adaptation of one of his most popular Uzumaki stories, Netflix has confirmed that a new anthology story is on the way, with Maniac revealing the first images of the scary anthology series.
While the upcoming series is slated to premiere on Netflix next year in 2023, Ito himself initially confirmed that “The Hanging Balloons” and “Tommy” will be a part of this new anthology series. With these new images, the following short stories in The Strange Hikizuri Siblings are confirmed: The Seance, The Unbearable Labyrinth, The Long Hair in the Attic, and The Intimidation to name a few. The scary story known as Where The Sandman Lives, which introduces a character not unlike ., has been confirmed Nightmare on Elm Street Freddy Krueger. . These stories are a mixture of supernatural horror and psychological nightmares, making for a good mix of some of Ito’s best works.
Netflix Geeked shared the new images via its official Twitter account, giving fans the opportunity to see what the new anthology series will look like and whether or not it can capture the aesthetic of mangaka horror artwork:

This isn’t the first time some of Eto’o’s scariest stories have appeared on the small screen, with a Junji Ito . group It was released to anime fans several years ago but is still controversial due to many fans of the horror master who believe that he was not able to live up to the high standard set by the artist.
The upcoming series has confirmed that there will be a total of twenty stories depicted in animation for the first time, giving horror movie fans plenty of terrifying moments to absorb.
