Producer Trigun Stampede says the anime drew inspiration from Disney

It’s been years since Trigun surprised fans with any new content, but that all changed a few weeks ago. If you didn’t know, IP made headlines around the world when the news broke, a new Trigun anime was on the way. More interest was announced this month when Anime Expo welcomed the anime team as guests of honor. And during Trigun Stampede’s big board, fans learned that the new series took notes from one of Disney’s favorite movies.

The update comes from Kiyotaka Waki, one of the producers overseeing Trigun Stampede. The CEO took to the stage with others like series creator Yasuhiro Nightow, and the group talked at length about Trigun’s development behind the scenes. At one point, Wake said he studied Tarzan extensively as the inspiration for the project.

Specifically, Waki said he looked at Tarzan when he was puzzled about how to convey Vash’s facial expressions using CG. After all, Studio Orange makes Trigun Stampede in CG style, and that’s definitely new to IP. As such, Waki looked at Disney’s Tarzan as the film also leaned on CG to bring its range of expressions and movements to life.

If you watched Trigun Stampede’s first PV, you can definitely see a little bit of Tarzan in the promo. Vash the Stampede moves smoothly throughout the clip, and his facial expressions are top notch. So far, the reboot looks like one of the best CG projects for the anime so far, but fans will have to stick to their judgment for the show to fall for real. Currently, reports say Trigun Stampede will debut in 2023, so fans can look forward to more anime sneak peeks in the coming months.
