Tons of spoilers below for Westworld The fourth installment of Season 4, “Generation Loss”, so be careful if you haven’t watched it yet!
Westworld He seemed to hint audiences at Episode 404’s significance in the way it avoided the usual cold opening, uninterrupted by the constant flow of details, twists, and revelations. It was a great hour of television, thanks in part to a noteworthy set of big revelations and twists that completely changed the world of this show from what we understood upon entering it. While I don’t think Westworld It can perfectly match the devastating shock of Timeline of William/Man in Black for Season 1، guardsend game shock.
Given everything we know now about Caleb, Maeve, and the other main characters, it’s almost bewildering to think that half of Season 4’s eight episodes haven’t aired yet. Creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan clearly haven’t finished putting viewers in a narrative predicament, so let’s take a closer look at the major and minor twists that pervade through Episode 404. That sometimes plague web browsing.)
Key Evolution #1: Caleb is killed and transformed into a host
Well, it finally happened: a sprain that happened to some Westworld Fans have been guessing and waiting forever Since Caleb Aaron Paul was first introduced in Season 3. Caleb was no longer a living, breathing human being, but instead became one of the many hosts who are subject to Charlotte Hill’s ruling thumb, though I’m not entirely sure what we’ve seen of him so far this season has been partly to test his fidelity to affirmation of conscience. The flashback in the early episode (within the flashback) played up viewers’ expectations in this regard, making it appear as if Caleb had died from a bullet wound while on a mission with Maeve.
It was actually the bullets that eventually killed him, though Hill’s team took Caleb out somewhat shortly after Maeve sacrificed herself. However, Hill chose to keep him as host, likely due to the strong influence he had on Dolores and Maeve, even though this made him an obvious threat. That’s Hill’s pride and arrogance, I think.
- So what happens next?
Caleb is clearly not a stray working bumblebee drone that will faithfully carry out her host duties without further clashing, even if Hale has the upper hand by controlling things. But Paul’s character, who has acquired a similar feel to Dolores, Maeve, and the Man in Black surely suggests that he will soon pool his human and host skills together to become Nightmare Hill. Assuming it doesn’t take another two decades to figure out how to gain the powers.
Major Twist #2: Charlotte Hill’s flight scheme worked, and the tower is real
With its first serialization in season four, Westworld I hinted at more timeline tricks like The man in black used an army of flies to reach the Hoover Dam, while much of what we saw next depicts the early trial stages of Hill’s plan to arm the fly. But it was confirmed in Episode 404, whose title “Loss of Generations” itself was a nod to its revelations, that her plan to control humanity via airborne parasites had been a huge success. And as Caleb soon discovers, it’s been 23 years since his human death, and the world is now populated by millions (possibly billions) of adults who were caught by flies as children, an age group in which such a perfect symbiosis is formed.
As it turns out, the mysterious tower we’ve seen and heard about is actually a massive version of the device inside Delos Laboratories that uses sound waves to control patients, located off the coast of New York City. (Which certainly relates to Peter’s killing of himself in front of Christina, the suicides being part of a trial-and-error test.) Tessa Thompson was divine in setting up the hope-destroying streak of “Welcome to my world,” humanity seems to have no chance of rising.
I mean, obviously humanity will get up again, but it’s about how. Because despite all that Hill seems to be a world-conquering tyrant, viewers have only seen the effects of the tower displayed specifically within New York City. Which could mean that other densely populated cities around the world aren’t within reach yet, and could offer help in bringing them down. Although I don’t really understand what the rest of the world thinks the zodiac is.
Major Twist #3: Aurora Perino C is Caleb’s daughter
To be clear, I’m sure there are some fans out there who have guessed this right from the start, as there are only a certain number of characters / twists to fill such theorizing. But it was still a jolt into the “aha” sense when it was revealed that the enigmatic Aurora Perino character, nicknamed C, is actually Caleb’s daughter Frankie. No one came out and said her character’s name was referring to the pops she left, but that’s the case, isn’t it?
Now that we know what this character’s motives are connected to, it’s easier to understand why she’s working with rebel leader Daniel Wu J. And why she doesn’t have much time to take the bullshit from anyone else. She went through a very traumatic experience with her mother, and we don’t yet know what happened to her after Caleb and Maeve’s assignment went that far. Nor what is the fate of Awad or what it is.
Frankie takes revenge, of course. Of course, we don’t know exactly how that will happen yet, but one can only assume that it will include the mysterious person that J and others were to extract. Could you end up being Awady?
Major Twist #4: Maeve is the weapon Bernard was talking about
Before we had a real guide to how the timelines worked in Season 4, I can’t imagine many fans were expecting Bernard’s big weapon in the desert to be Maeve. Now that we know it’s her, it kind of makes sense in the world, given that she’s one of the few hosts who has been able to tap into compassion and humanity, resulting in her sacrificing herself in order to eliminate the man in black. (Not that the entire “rescuing Caleb” part of that plan worked, but she doesn’t know it yet.)
I’m still not sure how all these geographical changes make sense, in relation to this desert region, although I’m curious as to what park would be built there, and why Delos didn’t just go through with construction despite all the eruptions and so on. Sure, Bernard would probably have found it even if it was under a fake medieval castle or a fake African jungle, but oddly enough, the land was barren.
Only Bernard knows it, but it’s easy to imagine that Bernard will somehow bring Maeve back online, so she can engage in 23 years of past events. But she will definitely need some big upgrades of her own in order to wipe out Hill and her seemingly endless army. Maybe she could use some old friends by her side, too.
Major Twist #5: Olympia Entertainment (Probably) New Delos
This also starts with a warning, as fans started theorizing about Delos connections sooner Westworld The name was verified by Olympiad Entertainment as the company that Christina Evan Rachel Wood works for. It happens with every organization and brand name that comes up, and it’s often a safe bet. So it wasn’t quite as shocking as it was intriguing when Episode 404 revealed that Hill was giving Caleb his loyalty test inside the Olympics building.
To be sure, there’s always the possibility that this wasn’t quite what it seems, and that the site switch was just to keep the fans away. But this would seem to create unnecessary obstacles to storytelling, because it is much easier to believe that the company responsible for crafting narrative games is actually a front for an elusive company ruled by artificial intelligence to control people’s minds. It’s a Delos, post-Ford mission statement.
Given this revelation, he seems to associate Caleb perfectly with Christina’s timeline – despite the fact that the Tower isn’t visible during her scenes – hopefully we’ll see Paul and Wood share the screen again, though it will be confusing for everyone involved. (Viewers included.) I think this would also lead to the revelation that Hill figured out how to digitize the parasites of flies, and decided it would be easier and cheaper to bypass physical gardens to make way for contagion via video games.
Minor Twist #1: The missing Maeve Caleb is what got her arrested
Westworld I answered one of my big questions about the season 4 premiere with this reveal, because I didn’t understand Maeve cruising around that trip down memory lane. We now know that it was her first big mental trip in years, and she wasn’t trying to cash in on her own memories of her daughter and Hector. Instead, viewers learned that after Caleb regained consciousness from a post-wound coma, Maeve didn’t say goodbye before retreating into seclusion, and stayed out of contact as a way to keep him safe. But then she mistook everything by missing it enough to try to penetrate the limb implant, which caused the blackout that drew the man in black to her. Maeve is a true friend, because true friends aren’t exactly perfect.
I doubt Maeve would need additional reasons to go to Hill & Co when she woke up again, but she would definitely take Caleb’s death (and eventual hosting) personally. Which probably wouldn’t be good for Hill’s face.
Minor Twist #2: Christina and Teddy are totally dating now
Teddy previously confirmed for a comeback He appeared at the end of the premiere in a “handsome stalker” setting outside Christina’s apartment building, and episode 4 revealed he was her blind date. because this is WestworldTheir cute encounter at the bar erupted when he picked up her lipstick as he rolled on the floor, suggesting yet another echo of Teddy and Dolores’ original story. Their scene ends with cheers for Christina and her way, wherever he leads, and if all these summons and references on the nose didn’t lead directly to Super Dolores, my loyalty would start to erode.
excellent. Dolores. clearly! Before that, though, I’d already thought Teddy 2.0 was created specifically as a way to hack into the weirdness going on with Christina. And now I wonder if Maeve was involved in this creation, or even if it was actually Maeve’s brain pearl inside Teddy’s head.
Minor Twist #3: Maya apparently remembers being afflicted with hill flies
For all the thoughts and theories I’ve thought regarding Christina’s existence, I have less mental ammunition when it comes to Maya than Ariana DeBose. This confused feeling only escalated with “losing a generation,” as Maya described her latest nightmare, which involved a childhood outing with her parents disrupted by a swarm of flies that initially attacked the screaming adults before descending on little Maya. If the actions of these characters are really happening in conjunction with Host Caleb’s story, Maya’s inherent nature could very well be done by the parasitic interface that Hale uses to control everyone. But there’s also something to be said for the way the scene remained partly focused on Christina’s changing of clothes as Maya spoke, as if her roommate’s dream had stoked her own memories.
Not a guide to Maya, really. My only hope is that Westworld Do not reveal that she is another clone of Dolores, and that she is an organic being inside and out. Ariana Deboss deserves the best of it Westworld can give.
I’m not sure there’s anything left to say, other than at least a dozen or so other impassioned statements that I can easily rely on. But for now, let’s reflect on the big reveal in Episode 404 as we anticipate the second half of the season. I’ll just put a “more clementines” note in the suggestion box before I go…
