Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard on telling visual stories in an exclusive new clip

It’s been a week since The Bob’s Burgers Movie was first made available in digital, and as of July 19, the movie is also available on physical home media. As with the home releases, the animated film is packed with additional behind-the-scenes anecdotes to support the film. One such addition includes Visual Storytelling, an excerpt from franchise creator Lauren Bouchard that details the importance of animated stories.

One of the things the show immerses itself in a lot that we wanted to bring to the movie as well is the sense of the inner life of the characters. We really wanted to see children’s fantasies and we really wanted to see adults’ memories,” Bouchard says in the clip, which you can watch in full above.

Bouchard adds: “These pieces felt really important and relevant to the story we were telling, so the hopes were of scope and scale. We also really wanted to deliver an A game in terms of visual excitement, visual storytelling, and visual jokes. We brought them from the series to the movie, as well as the people who joined us on the movie.”

The clip then goes from the footage of the film itself to the B-roll of the film’s development process where Bouchard praised the co-director on the project.

“Bernard Derrimann, who was Lee’s co-director on the film, is really talented, and he rarely gets his hand wrong,” continues the director. “He’s like a sniper when he puts his pen to paper because he’s just right. His sense of humanity, comedy and timing basically go into everything. They go to work, they go to the little moments, they go to the dance. A skill so naturally and so relaxed and it was a great, great honor, That I see his comics and animations in all those forms.”

Pop Burger movies It streams on both HBO Max and Hulu, and can be purchased on physical or digital media wherever movies are sold.
