It was Goldberg’s last WWE match in Judicial Department Back in February, where he lost to Roman Reigns in six minutes via technical submission with the Universal Championship on the line. Since then, Reigns has unified the Universal Championship with the WWE Championship and is approaching 700 consecutive days as Universal Champion, but “Da Man” is not satisfied with the way the match turned out. The couple was originally supposed to clash in WrestleMania 36but Reigns chose to walk away from the event for personal reasons after the COVID-19 pandemic moved the show to an empty WWE Performance Center.

He has since confirmed that although his current deal no longer contains any mandatory matches, he is still under contract with the promotion.

In a separate interview with New York PostGoldberg confirmed that he has been dealing with a shoulder injury for four to five years but is refusing to undergo surgery until he is ready for another WWE match. He has participated in 12 matches since his return to WWE in 2016, and has won the Universal Championship twice.
“I’m still waiting for that [call] to happen one of these days. But I’m assuming you’ll never retire in the wrestling world until you’re dead, so who knows.
He later added, “Recently, I’ve been working out day in and day out, and day in and day out to get to a point where I feel normal again.” “I kind of needed that break. I needed mental focus to understand that surgery wasn’t an option at the time, and I needed to put my ass on a grindstone.”
