Dragon Ball Super’s Granolah Arc Finale offers one of the best tag team battles to date

Dragon Ball Super It made it to the end of the long-running Granolah Arc race, and delivered the climax of one of the best team fights we’ve seen in Dragon Ball so far! There have been plenty of moving pieces to this Granolah Arc, which has spread its focus beyond Goku and Vegeta to explore a deeper history and relationships between Granolah’s new franchise characters, evil Heeters, and even side characters like Namekian Monaito. There was also a sharp turn in the side story of how Goku’s father Bardock fought this same battle decades ago and discovered a new Saiyan power in the process. So, did the Granolah Arc finale put it all together?

Short answer: Yes I did – in an amazing way! (spoilers!)

The Graonlah Arc finale from Dragon Ball Super saw Heeters’ powerful little brother Gas unleash his full form, a Kamikaze transformation that burns villains’ cells away even as he gives the full range of his ultimate potential powers. The new gas powers are too much for Goku even with his super instinct form enhanced by Bardock’s new Saiyan abilities.

To defeat the Gass, it really takes teamwork, and Granolah Arc takes care to take a moment to let everyone on the battlefield shine!

First, Granolah makes a victorious near-death return in time to save Goku from Gas, and takes on one of the most respected jobs in all of Dragon Ball: charging the ultimate energy blast to defeat the villain!

To give Granolah time to regain his power, Goku goes all out against Gas with his new powers, in a stunning attack. Of course again, Goku’s power comes up short – but Vegeta flails (seriously, with a nod) and saves Goku before Gas can dismantle him.

When Vegeta intervenes, the Gas, Oil, and Macki siblings try to jump in and help their brother – but the sweet old Monaito uses the one he knows and just attacks him (hypnosis) to put them to sleep.

At the last tense moment, Granolah needs a solution to blast the gas but not his home planet (the grain) to bits; Goku uses Ultra Instinct to show off his Sasuke-style avatar Susanoo, literally capturing gas and releasing it into space, giving Granolah all the room he needs.

As a final, and even secondary, callback, Gas is out of Granolah’s enhanced vision – until his AI assistant Oatmeal steps back for some precision targeting help. The gas is blown away (but maintained) and every player in Granolah Arc has a role to play in making it happen!

Dragon Ball fans have been debating whether this story will really help the series’ progression by making someone other than Goku the victor and hero for the first time in a long time. This was kind of a happy medium: teamwork, with Granolah taking the final blow.
