Who is Liz Truss?

Elizabeth Marie Truss, 46, was born in Oxford and studied philosophy, politics and economics at Merton College, Oxford.

After graduation, she worked for Shell and Cable & Wireless before taking the position of Deputy Director of Repair in January 2008.

Liz has served as Deputy MP for Southwest Norfolk since 2010 and was appointed Minister of the Environment from 2014 to 2016 and Minister of Justice and Lord Chancellor from 2016 to 2017. She has also held the position of Minister for Women and Equality since 2019.

Promoted from Secretary of International Trade to Secretary of State in September 2021.

Liz is married to accountant Hugh O’Leary. He studied at the London School of Economics and is believed to be the same age as Liz, who is 46.

The couple first met in 1997 at a Conservative Party conference and went on a date shortly thereafter.
