iPhone 14 expected to be launched at Apple September event (Opens in a new tab) And it looks like Apple is taking steps to avoid any kind of supply chain trouble. The tech giant has added to its list of suppliers for its upcoming iPhone 14 lineup to ward off supply chain disruptions once mass production of the devices begins.
according to Ming Chi Kuo (Opens in a new tab), an Apple analyst familiar with the company’s supply chain – SG Micro – a Chinese integrated circuit company, has been added to the company’s growing list of suppliers. In a series of tweets, Kuo explains how the SG Micro obtained quality certification for its high-end iPhone 14 models. This means that SG Micro will supply components for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Specifically, the Chinese company will provide power management integrated circuits (which manages the battery) to Apple, for this year’s premium iPhones.
(4/8) Company Update: SG Micro (300661) 1. SG Micro has certified the quality of the high-end iPhone 14 and is likely to ship PMICs (battery and level shifter) for the iPhone 14 at 2H22.July 22 2022
Kuo notes that this is the first time that SG Micro has provided components for Apple’s high-end phones, which means that the technical capabilities of its chips have reached “Level 1” used by more expensive electronics.
iPhone 14 production delay?
Apple is preparing for mass production of the iPhone 14 series that is scheduled to be launched this fall. But recently, there has been news of potential delays on various fronts for the production of the upcoming phones.
Koo said recently Apple is having supply issues with board and memory suppliers for the iPhone 14Although, it should not affect the launch date of the phone. Apple apparently orders millions of components ahead of launch, giving the company time to produce a large amount of units, so Kuo said it could have a “limited impact” on phone shipping.
a few months ago, 9to5Mac (Opens in a new tab) I mentioned that a Nikkei Asia Report (Opens in a new tab) He revealed that iPhone 14 production has been delayed by three weeks due to the COVID-19 lockdown in China. This was confirmed by analyst Jeff Bowe, who said that the iPhone 14 Max may be the model most affected. Recently, Display Supply Chain Consultants’ Ross Young also tweeted that iPhone 14 Max panel shipments lag behind the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which means The most exciting iPhone 14 model may be delayed.
Other Apple products like the iPad are also having supply issues. With the constant shortage of chips, we could see limited availability of some iPhone 14 models at launch.
Apple is expected to release the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max (or iPhone 14 Plus), the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. This year, we can really see a big difference between the iPhone 14 versus the iPhone 14 Pro as only the Pro is expected to get Apple’s new A16 Bionic processor and a more powerful 48MP main camera.
The iPhone 14 Max will probably have a larger battery as well as a larger screen than the standard iPhone 14, otherwise a comparison between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max points out many similarities between the two phones.
There’s some time between now and the launch of the rumored iPhone 14 series in September, so hopefully Apple can fix its supply issues – and adding their supplier list certainly appears to be a step in that direction.
