San Diego Comic-Con 2022 is in the books, but Hasbro has a wave of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Marvel Legends staying in the tank. This follows the debut of the first teaser trailer for Wakanda Forever and the first wave of Funko Pop characters based on the upcoming movie over the weekend at SDCC. Note that this is a Build-A-Figure wave that includes character cuts based on Attuma, the villain and enemy of Namor.
The newly made synopsis of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever reads: “In Marvel Studios” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fighting to protect their nation from the interference of world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace the next chapter, heroes must band together and with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) forging a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. The film stars Tenoch Huerta as Namor, the king of a nation hidden under the sea, and also stars Dominic Thorne, Michaela Cowell, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livanale.
Producer Nate Moore sat down with the Phase Zero podcast on Comicbook.com to discuss the expectations placed on this film:
“I think this movie has a different kind of pressure on it, of course, with Chadwick losing, which is so unexpected and unprecedented in a narrative way, to figure out how to deal with it,” Moore revealed. Then, ‘Hey, we want to have a good time and have fun,’ and people in the first movie, it’s how we act right through his legacy and tell a story that’s not exploitative, which we’ll never, ever do, but build on the things I love in the property and builds on the things he brought to the property in a way that is fun, feels real, feels acquired, and feels organic. Because I think we’re going to watch the movie in two lenses, pure entertainment, but also a facilitator. And we have to be aware of those two lenses as we make it.”
Moore added, “I mean, I’d be lying if I didn’t want people to be more excited about Black Panther 2, just because that’s what I think about 24 hours a day. But no, but I think everything just got a lot more different. And that’s something we’re talking about.” A lot. And again, for better or worse, what the Eternals do, is to show you that we can do all kinds of things. Because we’re very aware of the amount of things we make. We’re very familiar with the movies we made in the past. For us, as we go on Up front, it’s how we make Doctor Strange in the multiverse insane different from Thor: Love and Thunder, different from Wakanda Forever, different from The Marvels, different from Mrs. Marvel, different from Hawkeye. There are a lot of things.”
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled for release on November 11, 2022.
