Warner Bros. acquired Discovery the talents of veteran entertainment industry CEO Alan Horn. As I mentioned wrapHorn joins the newly merged firm as a senior advisor. WB Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced the news in a note today, sharing his excitement about the company’s newest member. “I am pleased to share with you that Alan Horn, one of the most respected studio directors in the industry, has agreed to assist me in a consulting role during this transitional period, starting August 1st,” Zaslav wrote. “No one knows this business better than Alan. He has had an extraordinary career that spanned nearly half a century.”
Horn’s joining WB Discovery is actually a reunion of sorts for a longtime CEO. Horn previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Warner Bros. From 1999 until 2011 he helped launch several blockbuster franchises, including The Dark Knight triple and Harry Potter series. Horne’s run with Warner ended when Time Warner Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Beaux forced him into retirement at the age of 68, citing his interest in turning toward young talent in leadership positions.
Horne’s retirement won’t last long, as former Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger brought him to the House of Mouse in 2012. Horn will take over as Disney’s CEO and later become Disney’s chief creative officer until October 2021, when Horne announced his retirement. Second . Zaslav is well aware of Horne’s accomplishments with his former employer, praising the CEO roles in Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox’s Disney adaptations.
Most recently, he served as Chairman and later Co-Chair and Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Studios, where for nearly 10 years he oversaw the production of all motion pictures and the merger of Lucasfilm and Fox Film Studios, as well as the expansion of content production for Disney’s streaming services. Zaslav concluded by referring to Horne’s beginnings with the World Bank, referring to how he sees this as a “homecoming.”

Alan began his career with legend Norman Lear and associates Jerry Pernicio and Bud Yorkin, and later co-founded and led Castle Rock Entertainment before serving as President and COO of Warner Bros. for 12 years,” Zaslav wrote. He knows the ins and outs of this studio and helped build it into the center of power it is today. He also has widespread talent relationships and great respect and appreciation for our unparalleled pool of IP, and will be able to offer a unique group a valuable perspective on the overall creative process.
