There is a Google Pixel tablet powered by Google’s Tensor chip, slated for release sometime in 2023.
It comes thanks to Google itself, which gave us an early look at this Pixel tablet during the Google I/O 2022 press event. We don’t know much about this new roster just yet, but we do know that it will likely run Android 13 and is designed to complement Google’s existing lineup of Pixel devices, including the Pixel 6a and Pixel Watch that were also revealed at a Google I/O event.
Here’s what we know so far about Google’s planned Pixel tablet, which we hope will prove to be good enough to claim a spot on our list of the best tablets on the market.

Google Pixel tablet: guesses price and release date
So far we don’t know much about the Pixel tablet, but we do know the release date, which is …. 2023.
So we could see it debut any time that year, but realistically, it’s unlikely that Google will bring this new tablet to market as early as 2023. And it seems very likely that a Pixel tablet will debut In the spring or fall, when Google traditionally released the equipment.
A fall seems especially likely when you consider that Google’s last tablet, the Pixel Slate, launched in October of 2018. Prior to that, Google released the Pixel C tablet in December of 2015. So if previous behavior is any indication, Expect to see the next Google Pixel tablet debut in the latter half of 2023.
Google Pixel Tablet: Design
At the Google I/O 2022 event where it was revealed, we took a quick look at some promotional shots of the tablet, and they suggested it would be a very nice tablet.

Based on this teaser, expect a simple streamlined menu with rounded edges and relatively thick edges. There is obviously a front and rear camera, but we’ll have to wait and see how good it is.
Unfortunately, the bezels around the screen are more prominent than we’d like, so hopefully Google can trim them down between now and launch.
The Google Pixel Tablet could also come with a stylus shaped like a Google tablet codenamed “Tangor” on the USI website. Since the Pixel Tablet is the only tablet we officially know Google is working on at the moment, it’s possible that the device will allow stylus insertion.
If this is indeed true, it could give the Pixel Tablet a neat gadget that rivals other tablets, particularly the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 and recent iPads.
There’s also a persistent rumor about the Nest Hub with a detachable screen, although that could also be a feature of the Pixel Tablet. The Android code base indicates a Google Dock capable of charging the tablet; When docked, the tablet can double as a smart display.
Google Pixel Tablet: Android 13
The same people working on Android work on the Google Pixel tablet, and Google brought it up during its 2022 I/O event as an example of how the company is working to improve the Android experience on tablets.
This was part of a bigger promotion for all the new features coming in Android 13, including some that should shine on the Google Pixel tablet.
In particular, Google has committed to updating more than 20 of its own apps to be more useful and usable on “large-screen” Android devices like tablets (as opposed to “small-screen” devices like phones). In addition, the tablet interface is generally overhauled, where you will be able to see more information at a glance and have permanent access to the taskbar that runs along the bottom. As you might expect, there will also be a drag and drop functionality between apps.
Google also works with third-party developers to make their apps more tablet-friendly. This includes Zoom, TikTok, Facebook, and Canva. And the Google Play Store will make it easier to find apps for tablets.
And while we’re still learning what to expect from Android 13, we already know that it will arrive with support for features like virtual surround sound, themed third-party icons, Bluetooth LE audio, notification permissions and better tools to manage battery usage. And since Android 12L has made many small improvements to the overall experience of using Android on a tablet, Android 13 will likely continue in that direction.
Google Pixel Tablet: Cameras
Not much is known about the camera specifications that we could see on the Google Pixel tablet. The leaker and developer Kuba Wojciechowski tweeted (Opens in a new tab)Possible camera device that we could see on the Pixel Tablet. This includes two 8-megapixel cameras – one on the front and one on the back.
For comparison, iPad Pro models come with 12MP cameras on the front and back, while the entry-level iPad offers an 8MP rear camera and a 12MP front camera.
Google Pixel tablet: Outlook
It’s still too early to have an informed opinion about Google’s planned Pixel tablet, but what we’ve seen so far is undoubtedly interesting.
Google made a big offer to scale back tablet development efforts in 2019, after the supposedly disappointing rendering of the Pixel Slate, so it’s exciting to see the Big G roll up its sleeves and take another crack at the perfect Android tablet design.
The Android tablet market may use some competition too – just take a look at our list of the best Android tablets you can buy, and you’ll see a huge number of Samsung tablets, including the excellent Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. It would be nice to see Google bring a new competitor to the table that gives the best Samsung tablets a run for their money; We’ll just have to wait and see if your Pixel tablet can remove it.
