In ROH Death Before Dishonor, Jonathan Gresham and Claudio Castagnoli made a great match that ended up Castagnoli’s way, leading to Claudio becoming the new ROH World Champion. Unfortunately from reports things did not go well between Gresham and AEW prior to the match, as it was reported that Gresham and AEW President Tony Khan had been in a heated argument before the match, and since Gresham requested his release. Combat combat selection The latest report reveals an update on the situation, saying that while the conversation between the two has been raging, it doesn’t appear to be burning any bridges. It also says there were “at least three companies” interested in Grisham before he signed with AEW and ROH, and since he requested his release there are no current plans for him in AEW, Ring or Honor.
The argument was confirmed by both sides as being particularly “hot”, but AEW was pleased with the way the match between Gresham and Castagnoli went, and many respected Gresham’s professionalism in continuing the match despite past problems.
While Fightful reports that Gresham has requested his release, they have yet to receive confirmation that AEW will be granted that release. It was recently revealed that Tully Blanchard is no longer appearing on AEW TV, and Blanchard was the leader of Tully Blanchard Enterprises, a faction that Gresham had recently joined after his heel turn.
The faction is now known as The Embassy, and Blanchard for all intents and purposes no longer works with AEW as it appears. It’s now known if Gresham had a switch issue, but in a previous interview he revealed that he didn’t talk much with Khan after buying him ROH, only being told about his heel role and joining Blanchard’s faction that same night. It happened. It remains to be seen what happens as Gresham and the Ring of Honor move forward, but we hope to have some answers soon.
