Love and Thunder Makeup Test Pictures

After playing Caped Crusader in three films for the Warner Brothers, Christian Bale finally joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. Although the appearance of the live version of the character changed from source material, moviegoers still applauded Bill for the horror he brought to the character. In new behind-the-scenes footage of the actor’s first makeup audition as the villain, you can see exactly what Marvel had in mind by choosing the actor for the role.

Shared on Instagram by Odd Studio’s hands-on effects artists, Bale can be seen wearing an evil smile in a set of photos showing off the character’s makeup. While Odd Studio handled the majority of the makeup, Allied FX helped come up with the right color for the character, while Mouth FX helped pull off the black bile that seeps out of the villain’s mouth throughout the film.

Bell previously told ComicBook.com that he wasn’t in the right shape to get Gorr’s comically exact look, so the studio and its artists came up with something else.

And I said, ‘Well, you know, that wouldn’t be possible in the state I’m in.’ And we have three days between finishing one movie and going to Australia for quarantine and so on. I usually like to have more time in between, but the pandemic means that things are going that way. Taika Waititi, who directed Motorcycle rentalReturn to direct Thor: Love and Thunder.
