Destiny/Additional Recording Director Explains News Delay, New Trailer Revealed

Type-Moon has revealed a second trailer for Fate/Extra Record, a remake of the dungeon crawler + visual novel game that was first released on PSP on July 22, 2010.

The trailer was first shown at Fate / Extra Wada Arco Exhibition In Japan from July 21 to August 9, 2022. Wada Arco is a prolific artist and character designer for the Extra series within the Fate franchise. She’s the creator of famous characters like Saber Nero and Caster Tamamo. English-speaking anime fans nowadays know her as Mama Hololive EN VTuber Euro Crony.

The gallery also includes more gameplay footage and artwork to reproduce. Some of the cameras in the trailer appeared online a few days after the show started. However, on July 31, Type-Moon officially uploaded the trailer after it was shown on ~ Re: Collection of Avalon le Fae ~ FGO’s Seventh Anniversary.

The trailer featured more characters appearing in Fate/Extra, with some new Reality Marble footage. The excerpt quickly reinterprets the concept of Holy Grail War on the Moon for those unfamiliar with it: how in the end only one wizard can make it out alive and get his wish.

Additionally, Kazuya Nino (Planning and Directing on the Remake, Original Producer and Director of Type-Moon Studio BB) explained why we haven’t heard about the remake for a long time. (Thanks to our peers at Automaton to explain it). Kazuya Nino explained on Twitter that the game is about a year behind schedule due to changes in the developing environment and changing partner companies. I suppose by “changes to the game development environment” he basically meant Covid delaying things.

It’s also interesting to note that Wada Arco’s new art book, released as an exhibition, is similarly delayed by a year. The art book was first announced for a 2021 release back in the Fate/Extra Record announcement livestream in 2020.

Last but not least, it’s also important to note that with this trailer, Type-Moon has officially confirmed that the new edition is titled “Fate/Extra Record”. Until now, “Fate / Extra Record” was a temporary title. They decided to keep it.

Fate/Extra Record was announced in July 2020 to celebrate the original game’s 10th anniversary in a live broadcast featuring Kana Ueda (Tohsaka Rin) and Kazuya Nino. Be sure to check out the full recap of the live stream with some gameplay and all the details shared. The broadcast also included comments from Nasu and Takashi Takeuchi that we covered separately.

Fate/Extra Record has not been announced to any platforms, and there is no estimate for the release date. In the past, Kazuya Nino has stated that he wants to release the remake on as many platforms as possible. The game’s official website is still there teaser mode.

Type-Moon Studio BB is also working on two other unannounced games, one of which is a brand new game that could “take ten years to release,” Nino joked in a Fate/Extra Record stream. Kazuya Nino also mentioned that he would like to remake Fate/Extra CCC later but is a bit concerned that the game is too saucy.
