Scherzo of Deep Night debuts new poster, trailer

Sword Art Online is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and the anime will be releasing a new movie in just a few months to keep the festivities going. After all, Japan is set to welcome the upcoming anime movie in theaters in September. And now, we’ve got a new trailer and poster for Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night.

As you can see above, the new promo comes in less than a minute, but it packs a lot in time. Asuna is returned to the screen as this part follows the events of the latest Sword Art Online movie. Our onscreen heroine has joined forces with other favorite characters like Kirito, and we’ll see more of the original arc of the anime through Asuna’s point of view.

For those unfamiliar with this big project, the upcoming Sword Art Online will be an adaptation of a new volume of light novels that originally explored Asuna’s POV during her travels in Aincrad. The fourth volume of light novels will make up the bulk of this film. So if you’re not familiar with the occasional series, you can take some time to catch up.

Of course, you can also catch up on the story thanks to Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night. The film began adapting light novels in the fall of 2021. The film was recently released in Japan on Blu-ray and DVD as well as through various streaming services. At this time, no word has been given as to when the first movie will hit shelves in the US, and the same is true for the upcoming Sword Art Online sequel.
