TVLine Official reports will conclude The Flash with the ninth season.

The final season will offer fans the final 13 episodes to bid farewell to. In fact, Executive Producer Eric Wallace already addressed the decision in a statement:

“Nine seasons! Nine years of saving Central City takes fans on an emotional journey full of heart, humor and sight. And now Barry Allen has made it to the starting gate in his last race. So many amazing people have given their talent, time and love to bring this amazing show to life every week.”

He added, “So, as we prepare to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter, I want to thank you for the wonderful cast, writers, producers, and crew over the years who have helped make The Flash an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.”

Although Eric Wallace didn’t explicitly address why The Flash ended, it’s not too surprising when you consider previous interviews with the cast.

In fact, it turns out that Season 8 was initially expected to be the final season.

Robbie Amell (Deathstorm) opened up about how Season 8 sold him while talking to him TVLine: “How it was basically shown to me was, ‘This is the last season and we’d like you back. “

However, Eric eventually decided to return to the drawing board and turn a series finale into the season finale, facilitating the events of the ninth and final season.

Season 8 averaged north of a total of 1 million viewers with a demographic rating of 0.3 (with Live + 7 running). TVLine reports that this is down 32 percent and 40 percent, respectively, from season seven.

With that in mind, Season 9 will likely see the CW drop further, making it an ideal time to wrap up the show while still providing a finale for fans.
