This is more confusing than CGI or the She-Hulk Scale. She-Hulk’s release date and schedule have been changed very slightly, breaking current trends that Disney is doing in its original Marvel and Star Wars shows.
The announcement – about She-Hulk’s move from August 17 to August 18 – came on the Summer Television Critics Association’s 2022 press tour today (Wednesday, August 3). It’s an interesting move, as Disney Plus launched its new Marvel and Star Wars titles on Wednesday. It’s been this way for over a year, ever since Loki debuted on Wednesday, June 9 (and got great reviews).
All nine episodes of She-Hulk will also be bowing out Thursday as well. This news comes shortly after Andor was driven out on the road from August 31 to September 21 (both Wednesdays).
She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, the upcoming Marvel movie or series, will be Marvel’s first “comedy series,” starring Tatiana Maslany, as Bruce Banner’s cousin Jennifer Walters, an attorney working on “legal cases directed against superhumans” ( Disney’s own words) and also become She-Hulk. Also attending will be MCU veterans Mark Ruffalo (who plays “Smart Hulk” as Disney calls him), Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/The Abomination and Benedict Wong as Wong.
Disney Plus has also announced that Season 31 of Dancing with the Stars will begin on September 19, and that season two of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers will arrive on September 28.
Analysis: Is Disney learning to publish its biggest offering?
As someone who’s seen Obi-Wan and Mrs. Marvel, I was kind of disturbed by how they both fell on the same mornings (Wednesdays). If this suggests that Marvel is moving to Thursdays and Star Wars shows keep Wednesdays — or that Disney knows they shouldn’t overload people by putting on shows on the same day, color it “happy.”
If Disney can learn to publish versions of its shows, those who watch things on day one might start feeling better a little bit about subscribing. Personally, I don’t like the feeling that Disney Plus is a service that I only use one day a week. That’s not a huge change to this value proposition, I’ll admit.
