While HBO Max’s loss of the Harry Potter films makes sense, it is not. A new report indicates that six HBO Max originals (dubbed Max Originals) have been quietly removed from the streaming service over the past few weeks. And while we love HBO Max (it’s our pick for the best streaming service), we don’t like the news we’ve been getting lately.
as such diverse (Opens in a new tab) Reports said the films in question include the Seth Rogen-led comedy, An American Pickle, and the 2020 edition of The Witches starring Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer. Moonshot of HBO Max’s Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse also disappeared, as did the pandemic heist film Locked Down, which also starred Hathaway. Melissa McCarthy’s Superintelligence and drama Charm City Kings were other victims.
As mentioned above, movies come and go from streaming services all the time. This, however, is different for two reasons. First of all, these were HBO Max movies. Second, HBO Max did not include its removal in the recent monthly lists of “titles leaving HBO Max”. This comes on the heels of the disappearance of TV shows from HBO Max. In July, people noticed that programming from TNT and TBS – networks owned by Warner Bros. Discovery’s parent HBO Max – including Snowpiercer, The Last OG, and Chad – has also disappeared from HBO Max.
