Hisense Smart Air Conditioner: Specifications
BTUs: 8000, 14000
room size: 350, 700
Energy Efficiency Ratio: 15.4
works with: Alexa, Google Assistant
The wall-mounted air conditioner in my 3 year old’s room is not overly loud, but due to its age it makes enough noise to annoy her that we turn it off when she sleeps. On hot nights we had to make sure her windows were open and the ceiling fan was on so there was some air circulation, but she still slept in a stuffy room.
Ever since I installed the Hisense smart air conditioner in her room, she has been sleeping like a baby. This is because this model has an ultra-quiet mode that barely makes a sound. The same quiet inverter technology makes this window air conditioner extremely efficient as well, so I could rest easy knowing I wasn’t on my electric bill.

Hisense Smart Air Conditioner Review: Price and Availability
Hisense Smart Air Conditioner (Model AW0822TW1W) is available for $399 exclusively through Lowes.
There’s a nearly identical model (AW0822CW1W) that’s just $299, but it lacks the inverter technology used on the model we tested. Thus, it does not have an ultra-quiet mode, and it has a lower energy efficiency rating of 11.4.
The Smart Inverter Air Conditioner is available in three sizes:
These three models cost about $50-$100 more than their non-inverter counterparts.
Hisense smart air conditioner review: design and installation
unlike media uHisense has a very traditional A/C window design and installation: First, you attach two side rails, add some peeling to your window, and then place the entire unit in your window. Hisense also includes two foam panels with an adhesive backing, which you can place over the bulkheads—which adds an extra layer of insulation, and makes everything look more attractive—but will make it more difficult to remove and reinstall.
The bulk of the face of the Hisense air conditioner is a plastic grille-like grille that resembles the facade of the front of a Lexus; Whether that’s a good thing depends on what you think of luxury cars.
Like most window air conditioners, the mesh can be removed to access the air conditioner’s nylon filter. (Knowing how to clean the air conditioner is critical to keeping it running smoothly.)
Above the grille there is a touch-sensitive control panel, in the center of which are large numbers that indicate the temperature. At the top there is a ventilation hole that blows cool air into the room.
Hisense Smart Air Conditioner Review: Performance
I could hardly believe my ears at how quiet the Hisense air conditioners were; In the very quiet mode, I heard more noises coming from outside the window than I heard from the air conditioner. From a distance of six feet, I measured a sound level of 43 decibels when the Hisense was in ultra-quiet mode. That’s not quite as 36dB as advertised from about the same distance (Hisense measures it from a meter), but it’s still very good. By comparison, Media U, one of the best smart air conditioners, recorded 46 decibels from a distance of six feet at its lowest setting. However, when raised to high, Hisense registered 55 decibels, compared to 49 for the Midea.
Hisense cooled my daughter’s room at 8 x 10 feet, and kept it at a comfortable temperature overnight. Most importantly, she did not complain about the noise.
Because it uses an inverter-type compressor, rather than an old-fashioned rotary compressor, Hisense air conditioners are also more efficient than most other window air conditioners. An Energy Efficiency Rating (EER) of 15.4 is the best we’ve seen from a unit we’ve tested. (EER is one of the three things you should look for when shopping for a new air conditioner.)
Hisense smart air conditioner review: app
Hisense app is basic but functional. Confusingly, you’re not using one of the many Hisense AC apps on the App Store; Instead, you have to download the generally called ConnectLife app to control A/C from your phone.
The app is filled with a number of black and white boxes, each of which controls a different aspect of the air conditioner: fan speed, quiet mode, temperature, etc. It also provides a graph of your usage in minutes and electricity consumption.
The application also allows you to create automation when the air conditioner should be turned on and off. These can be based on time and triggers, such as whether the state of another connected device has changed. However, when looking at the list of appliances – dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator, etc. – it seems to be of limited use.
It’s much more useful to connect A/C to Google Assistant or Alexa (which you can do through the Alexa app) and create actions there.
Hisense Smart Air Conditioner Review: Verdict
Hisense Smart Air Conditioner with Ultra Quiet Technology is actually – very quiet.
Among the best smart air conditioners, we still like the Midea U, as its design not only removes those unsightly obstructions but also uses the most effective insulation properties in your window. It’s also $50 less than the Hisense, and not much louder. The Hisense is still very quiet and efficient, and would be a good addition to any room where you need a window air conditioner.
