James Bond director GoldenEye exposed to stark changes | movies | entertainment

Today, Saturday August 6, 2022, James Bond GoldenEye appears on ITV screens at 8 PM.

007 marks the first time that Pierce Brosnan has been seen as an international spy. And although he had some big shoes to fill – he was replacing Timothy Dalton – director Campbell was confident he would make a great Bond. Fans had other ideas.

With Brosnan came the turn of the century. And with it, there are a number of big changes to the Bond franchise.

Brosnan not only revolutionized the Bond franchise with glamorous special effects and a fresh, elegant style, but Campbell spoiled some of the Bond traditions.

First of all, Campbell got rid of the famous Bond car Aston Martin and replaced it with a BMW. If that wasn’t bad enough, fans have had issues with the occasional Bonds new outfit and practical gadgets.

In the end, fans cornered him.

Campbell remembered promoting GoldenEye in 1995.

He said, “I was in New York with GoldenEye and was invited to one of these fan conventions. I was naive enough to think that these people didn’t take this kind of thing seriously.”

He added, “I went out on stage and was astonished by the questions.”

Perhaps the most terrible change for die-hard fans was the complete exchange of actors for M.

Of course, Brosnan soon had a huge hit in the Bond fan base.

GoldenEye was critically acclaimed and grossed $356 million at the box office.

He went on to star in a total of four Bond films before dropping out of the series.

Brosnan later recalled being “kicked to the curb” after “asking for more money” for a fifth Bond film.

Brosnan was quoted as telling the story in “Some Kind of Hero: The Remarkable Story of the James Bond Films.”

He said, “I was in the Bahamas, working on a movie called After Sunset and my agents called me and said, ‘Negotiations are off. [Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson] They are not quite sure what they want to do. They will call you next Thursday.”

Barbara and Michael called him to tell him, “I’m so sorry… you’ve been a great James Bond. Thank you so much.”
