WWE’s WrestleMania 39 The main event has been rumored to be Roman Reigns vs. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for over a year. But in its latest update on Wrestling Radio ObserverDave Meltzer pointed out that there are no guarantees that the match will happen. Reigns united the WWE and Universal Championship at WrestleMania 38 Back in April and recently crossed 700 consecutive days as world champion, but the bout completely hinges on Johnson’s busy schedule.
“I don’t think there are any guarantees he’s a rockstar,” Meltzer said. “Rock has a lot of commitments, XFL will continue.”
“If his show gets renewed, he might need to film the (Young Rock) show… I think he’d want to do that, but it’s extenuating circumstances,” Meltzer added. “They asked him to do the Emmys but he didn’t have time…God knows how busy this guy is…I don’t think he would go in the match unless he had enough time for a match. I don’t think he wanted to do that at all if He did not perform at a high level.”
He also noted that the match was originally intended to be a world championship match, but has now said that may not be the case. Johnson confirmed with ComicBook last year that if he was able to return to wrestling, he wouldn’t have another championship like in 2013.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever get the title back, considering I’m the people’s champion, but I don’t know if it’s another title run,” Johnson said last November. “I think it’s possible, you know, that there could be another match on the way. It should make sense.”
He later added, “It seems like Roman, you know, I’m obviously very close to Roman, and we talk about this all the time, and I still encourage him to keep doing what you want, and keep honing those skills.” “I think he’s doing a great job with his promotion, his management, his in-house work. Everything keeps getting better and growing. And that’s always the best part, I think, about the world of professional wrestling is that when someone gets a swipe and gives the ball a run, they either score a touchdown. with it or they don’t. But then some people not only score for it but then start changing the way the game is played. And in Roman’s case, he does it slowly, and you can start reading the tea leaves. And again, I’m so proud I love everything he does. I love everything the Usos do. I love what they do. Re-work together, we’ll see in the future.”
