Smiling Friends fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the Adult Swim animated series in season two, and the creators behind the series have thrown some big teasers about new characters and more to be expected in the upcoming episodes! The original animated series of Michael Cusack and Zack Huddle debuted on Adult Swim with a surprise premiere over the course of one evening, and has since been at the center of the conversation for many anime fans. So it came as no surprise to see that the series was picked up for a future second season.
The creators were working on the second season of smiling friends Since the announcement, and during a special panel for the series as part of this weekend’s Adult Swim Festival event in Philadelphia (Of which Adult Swim shared some highlights), Michael Cusack, co-creator of the series, opened up about some of the things fans can look forward to seeing in the series’ second season. While playing timidly around major spoilers, it seems plans are to continue expanding the world and characters introduced during that first season with more wild action.
Cusack began: “You’ll see crazy characters, you’ll see crazy things.” “It’s going to be a continuation of the first season without feeling too repetitive… It’s an interesting dynamic show where it feels like it’s okay, they help sad people, but we don’t want to make it like they’re helping a guy that’s going to kill himself in every episode. It’s a challenge that It’s more of a sandbox where you get to see these interesting characters and different areas of the city or the world… I know I’m just walking around it because we want to keep it a secret, but basically you’ll see a bunch of new characters.”
So it’s far from anything concrete, but at least fans can rest easy knowing more is on the way!
