Richard Readings talks about Peppa Pig’s phenomenal rise, Daddy Pig’s similarities to Mr. Incredible, and more

The world of Peppa Pig has become a mainstay of television over the past few years, and much of the show’s magic is in the cheerful family at the center of the show. This family includes Peppa, George, Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig, and kids from all over the world love watching their fun adventures and all the tumultuous action that ensues. These characters are revived by a group of great artists, including Richard Ridings, who has been the voice of Daddy Pig since the show’s inception. I recently had a chance to talk to the Ridings about all about the show, including why it’s still so popular, what he loves most about working on the show, and more!

Ridings has worked on a range of different projects, and while he loved the show when he first joined the project, not seeing it become a global phenomenon it became clear that it has become.

“I don’t think anyone can see anything happening around the world…other than Barbie. My first thought is that I don’t care if this is a hit or not in the UK. I just loved it. I just wanted to be a part of this.” I loved the team, Phil, Nev and Mark. I thought they were making something really beautiful. At the time, I had a small family too. I think my daughter was… eight or nine, but we had a two-year-old son around that time. I said Just, ‘Okay, that’s really nice.’ I think maybe that’s one of the reasons Phil came in and had a look and did an audition.”

Readings met Phil in a battle between the bands his daughter was playing in, and this is where he learns of a project in the works that will turn Peppa Pig.

“He said, ‘Oh yeah, we have this thing that we’re developing. He was cute. He was saying they were having problems with the BBC. The BBC had done their previous project, but for some reason they were bobbing at Peppa. I thought, ‘I think they’re mad because I think this is really likable.’ It is about families. It is funny and warm. He is learning about life. He had all those wonderful things right from the start. They roll laughing. They jump in muddy puddles,” Readings said.

It soon became apparent that the show was a success and gained an audience, and each time the Ridings spoke to the team they were adding people to introduce the show into new territories.

“Phil couldn’t have predicted that it was a global phenomenon. I remember Phil kept calling me and going, ‘My company sold it to five other regions.’ It was like, ‘Okay, that’s crazy.’ We have to hire people to re-express it or we have to hire them to write translations for China.” It’s cool. It was beautiful, but I also think it’s a testament to the power of texts,” Readings said. “Someone was actually asking me earlier why it’s so common. I think if you’re raising your family, you have a lot of raw material out there about family trying…mummy and daddy trying to teach their kids about the world and saying it can be fun too.”

The show also explores how parents aren’t 100% sure about everything either, why that’s okay and how to deal with it. “Also, if you’re watching Daddy Pig, it’s OK to fail and fall on your face because you’re just laughing, but the most important thing is to go. I guess that’s it,” Readings said. . Early on, he’d kind of say, ‘I’m a bit of an expert on this. Watch this,” then falls flat on his face, which is of course a well-known comedy metaphor, but more importantly, Matt, I think it’s an idea that can do, try. Get a crack even if you aren’t successful the first time. It’s huge. It’s so relaxing. He has a very comfortable and kind presence in their lives.”

Ridings has many favorite episodes over the course of the show, although one of them includes Peppa’s staple, the muddy puddle.

“I have a lot, but one thing that still sticks in my mind is when he has to go and get his World Muddy Puddle Jumping Record and get into training, like Mr. Incredible of the Incredibles,” Ridings said. “You have this scene, where everything goes like Zayn. He says, ‘You have to become one with the blessing.'” I’m thinking, ‘This is for preschoolers. It’s so cool.” The fact that you can go there is great.”

“They’re so creative. Another favorite too, there’s a music festival. The Suzy Sheep family is great. They’ve got this awesome…they’ve got tents with rugs and a jacuzzi or something. Peppa goes, ‘Oh yeah, do we have one of those,'” My Father? “No, no, we do it traditionally.” I got this little little tent. Then it rained and they’re all at the music festival, but then they put up their wells and that made the biggest jump in muddy puddles. The way they tied it up is amazing. I think scripts are great, just great. It’s nice to be a part of it, and I think to be in the center of it as well,” Readings said.

Peppa Pig is more popular than ever, and live action releases always seem to pop up, so will he be ready for it?

“It’s funny, actually, that I have a friend who runs a theater company. I think they do Peppa Pig, and it’s a stage show, where people dress up in costumes,” Reddings said. “It’s not for me to hurry to add. I’m much happier when I’m doing animators and going to the studio and transcribing there, but yeah, I think it’s been very successful and very popular. Now, we have a Peppa Pig garden I guess, which I haven’t been to yet. , down the south coast somewhere, where people can roam like a little fairground. You can see the pizza stuck to the ceiling. We did some audio for that too,” Readings said.
