Black Adam director reveals how they handle Hawkman’s complicated origin story

As far as the complex backstories for comic books go, there are some easy stories in DC Comics like Batman and Superman, some a bit more difficult like Martian Manhunter, and then you have characters like Hawkman. Multiple versions of Hawkman have been published before, ranging from the version that descends from Earth and is rooted in reincarnation to a Hawkman who is actually a police officer from another planet. This fall will see Hawkman finally make his big screen debut, appearing in the upcoming Black Adam movie with Aldis Hodge taking the role. How will the film deal with this complex asset? Well, it clearly won’t.

“In the comics, there are clear references to like, ‘Hey, I saw you 5,000 years ago.'” do you remember me? Director Jaume Colette Serra emphasized that we don’t Vanity Fair. “It’s going to be very confusing. Hawkman is obviously reincarnated, how many times do you need reincarnation and do you still remember? All these rules [are something] You don’t want to set it until these characters are really created… He’s a very driven character that you know he’s on the right side. He is a leader. He wants to bring this team together and bring a certain stability to the world. Hawkman has a very strong sense of what’s right and what’s wrong, and Black Adam challenges that.”

Collet-Serra revealed that in Black Adam, Hawkman is the leader of the Justice Society of America, whose on-screen members will also include Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan). Even with a stacked slate like that, and a morally questionable black Adam flying around, it’s Hawkman who makes the decisions. It will also get rid of anti-hero Dwayne Johnson.

“Aldis [Hodge] Very amazing as Hawkman and it brings weight and energy to this character, if you are a fan of Hawkman, you know its history, [he] lived many ages [bring] A real nuance in the way Aldis plays, which is really interesting, but he’s also a tough guy,” producer Hiram Garcia previously revealed to CBR. “The way Black Adams would treat each other would be so much fun for the fans to see. So they all took it out of the park. They put their hands up. As soon as we saw them reading, we knew right away they were the guys with the roles, and we’re really happy about that.”

black Adam Sarah Shahi (The Word, Sex/Life) will also be featured as Adriana Tomaz, with Oli Latukefou, Marwan Kanzari, Muhammad Amer, James Kusati Muir, and Bodhi Sabungwe in currently unknown roles.

black Adam It is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 21 exclusively.
