Icicles in San Francisco rolls up ice cream with unlimited toppings!

San Francisco — Ice in San Francisco is one of the few locations in the Bay Area where you can try a new sensation, rolled ice cream.

“The idea actually originated in Southeast Asia, and Thailand in particular,” recalls Oscar Tulipo, one of the owners of Icicles. “The owner went out on a trip, saw the concept, brought it back to the Bay Area and now it’s all over.”

Rolled ice cream begins with a thin layer of ice cream spread in a frozen pan.

“We’re taking it in its first phase,” Tulipo explains. “It’s in liquid.”

After the liquid solidifies, the ice cream maker rolls the layers into a perfect spiral.

“The process we use and the thickness of the ice cream we make actually make it creamier than any other type of ice cream,” Tulipo stated.

Each ice cream is made to order, right in front of the customer.

“When you go to an ice cream place, you usually see them take it out of the dispenser, bring it into the cup, and sprinkle some toppings on it,” says David, an ice cream lover. “But here, you can actually see the workers making this. It’s an amazing experience just to watch.”

Customers can choose a dairy or non-dairy base, then finish their wrapped treat with their choice of unlimited toppings.

Agent Brie Winslow says, “Honestly, rolled ice cream is crazy, I think frankly ice cream makes me feel better, all my problems will probably go away.”

“It’s just the next evolution of ice cream, it’s exciting,” Tulipo shares. “I think it’s just so fun and delicious.”
