“There are some people like Molly Shannon and Aubrey Plaza for whom we wrote roles, and Jeff Baena has a long working relationship with them and I do, so that was really fun,” Brie shared with ComicBook.com about how the casting process affected the project once it came to life. “But I think someone was a little bit unexpected, I had to say Ben Sinclair. Ben Sinclair took on the character of Craig, who is – we referred to him as the ‘camp counselor’ for the show that all of these characters are running, in a different direction than we were expecting. Just Because I feel Ben has a very unique energy, and I’ve always been a fan of him, I love high maintenance. He’s such a specific person, he really sets that whole character different, in a way that was just fun.”

“It was a huge part of what was fun to write and get into, playing with these different genres and the way the characters control the genre you encounter as an audience,” Brie recalls. “As Amber, you follow the feelings of Amber as an audience, and they take you through these different twists and turns based on how you’re feeling, and what kind of movie you want to be in at any given moment. So it was really fun to play with that, but I think overall there’s a line of text It feels like the Jeff movies, how they always feel, and it’s also to say totally unique and unexpected. “It’s always been planned. In fact, when Jeff presented the idea to me, I feel like a lot of those pieces were really there as they are in the movie,” Brie elaborated on the development of the film’s epilogue. “If anything, I’d say earlier drafts of the script had a lot more graphics than in the end. We pulled it up a bit for what you see in the movie.”
