Tottenham Hotspur want Ashley Phillips, but Blackburn Rovers still believe the defender can sign a new deal and stay at Ewood Park.

Tottenham have signed Udinese defender Destiny Udogie on a young deal for the future before sending him back on loan to the Italian club.

Fabio Paratici needs to think about talent for the future, especially local talent.

Spurs have had problems with domestic numbers of late and have turned to Jed Spence to help with that problem.

More will be needed, though, and Tottenham appear to be eyeing another Championship talent.

Tottenham Hotspur want Ashley Phillips

The Daily Mail reported earlier today that Tottenham are set to sign Blackburn Rovers talent Ashley Phillips.

It has been suggested that Paratici is planning to travel to Blackburn’s game with Reading tonight to give the green light to the teenager’s move.

Blackburn have named their squad for this game and 17-year-old Phillips once again starts at the heart of the defence.

Given Reading’s relative proximity to Tottenham, Paratici could be in tonight’s game, but Blackburn are apparently not expecting a deal.

Lancs Live report Talk of Phillips leaving for Tottenham is rife – and Blackburn actually believe he could stay.

It is believed that Phillips could soon sign his first professional contract and talks with his representatives are scheduled soon.

There are “positive” rumblings of Phillips committing his future to Blackburn, and in particular Jon Dahl Tomasson, a key factor.

That means Tottenham may not be as close to signing Phillips as first thought, with Paratici having some work to do in the coming days and weeks.

Phillips, 17, Hailed as a “mega footballer” by former Rovers boss Tony Mowbray.and supported for a great future.

A deal similar to Udogie’s – now cash and a loan back to continue his development – could appeal to all parties, but Blackburn are confident of keeping Tottenham at bay here.
