Paris Saint-Germain agreed to sell Kehrer to West Ham as the 20-nation international entered the final year of his contract at the Parc des Princes in July. He has now penned an initial four-year deal at the London Stadium with an option for a further two years.

Kehrer also favored a move to the Irons against interest from La Liga outfit Sevilla Sky Sports. He leaves PSG after four years at the Ligue 1 giants, where he returned 128 appearances in all competitions. However, the German played only 20 of the 34 games he played last season.

Mauricio Pochettino also favored Kehrer on the right wing in his last campaign in charge of Paris Saint-Germain. Christophe Galtier has left the former Stuttgart and Schalke prospect out of the matchday squad, but PSG have started their tenure in charge with three wins.

The Paris Saint-Germain transfer will now offer David Moyes “a bit of everything”.

McKinlay believes Kehrer will give Moyes defensive versatility now that he has signed for West Ham from Paris Saint-Germain. The Irons assistant coach also appreciates that the 6ft 1 defender comes with titles and the knowledge of competing in the Champions League.

“He’s got good experience, he’s versatile and we’re looking forward to working with him,” McKinlay said he said. “I think so [he will offer West Ham] a little bit of everything.

“I think he played mainly as a defender for the national team, but at PSG as a central defender. We feel that he will be able to add to us in a number of areas.”
