Manchester United want Everton’s Asmir Begovic as they look to compete for the veteran goalkeeper David De Gea.

It promises to be a furious end to the window for United, who don’t have nearly enough to do this summer.

A terrible start to the new seasons shows how much support Erik ten Hag needs and new signings are essential.

Every day it feels like more potential signings are being linked with United, but few could have predicted Begovic.

“Manchester United” wants “Everton” player Asmir Begovic

This is reported by Telegraph United are aiming to sign Begovic from Everton to Old Trafford before the transfer window.

United reportedly see Begovic as the perfect cover and rival for David De Gea.

United have loaned Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest and they want Tom Heaton to be their third choice this season.

Begovic will be seen as second-choice to De Gea and his status as a home-grown player is very attractive to the Red Devils.

However, Frank Lampard is “determined” to keep Begovic and does not want him to leave Goodison Park.

Begovic, 35, was back-up to Jordan Pickford last season and made just three Premier League appearances.

The Bosnia international has previously worked as a reserve player for Chelsea and AC Milan, so he will be no stranger to his role at a huge club like United.

Begovic has just one year left on his Everton contract and United will now be hoping the lure of playing at Old Trafford can lure him away from Merseyside.

It’s not as exciting as yesterday’s rumor of Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer, a quality ball-playing stopper who could seriously challenge De Gea.

Signing Begovic instead would almost certainly confirm that De Gea, who looks unconvincing on the ball and shaky between the sticks, will remain first choice.

Everton will look to hold firm, but United are making a big push for the experienced Begovic.
