Her playoff performance led to some less rich comments from Simon Cowell… but a possible connection to Weird things fans!
For the qualifying performance, Freckled Zelda (real name Rachael Wilson but under her stage name of AGTHoping to take her to the finals, she sang “An Endless Story,” which should be familiar to any fan of the 1984 movie – which she referred to as the “OG fantasy movie” – and/or fans of Weird things Who watched season 3 with Netflix subscription And the Saw a duet of Dustin and Suzy.
When the singer spoke to CinemaBlend and other outlets after her playoff performance, she noticed that the song was back in popularity when Weird things Season 3 premiered with a nod to NeverEnding StoryAnd she answered and explained why she chose this song:
What better song for the “music fairy” playing the ocarina as part of a million dollar prize quest and a Las Vegas stage show than the song “Never Ending Story” from the weird and beloved movie? If anything, it suits her subject better than Colors of the Wind did in her test.
However, Simon Cowell wasn’t as complementary to her qualifying performance as he was in the audition, and Howie Mandel wasn’t sold as much as Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum. While speaking to the press after the August 16 qualifying episode, she considered whether or not she would change anything about her performance if she could come back, in light of Simon Cowell’s comments:
Freckled Zelda’s comment about believing the music was “a bit overbearing” actually reflected one of Cowell’s criticisms, when he said it was “lost in production”. Heidi Klum came to the singer’s defense by saying it wasn’t her fault, but Cowell didn’t seem to regret what he said. His comments didn’t dampen Freckled Zelda’s attitude or his view of what she had done. She shared the message she would give to others, after feeling judged and suspicious:
It is good to know that she stands by her performance despite the overwhelming praise from the judges. She definitely had the support of the audience, who waved lights throughout her song to match their cheers and applause. Plus, I had a little fun on Simon Cowell’s account, when she gave him his own Ocarina after he spoke out against her use of the tool in her test. Take a look at her latest performance:

Viewers had less than twelve hours to vote for their favorites who would go ahead, with ads starting just 24 hours after the playoffs from eleven other acts that cut short auditions.
The competition was intense, with Gold Award winners Madison Taylor Baez (who debuted in a big way With her “Amazing Grace” experience) and Chapel Hart with the group of states Performing an original song “basic” compared to the audition.
