Gregory Shead murder: Suspect Dionate Banks claims self-defense, but victim seen trying to break up fight, document reads!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Court documents state that the man accused of shooting a Houston-area former high school basketball star to death claimed the victim was on her way to a “shooting place” when a fight broke out in a bowling alley parking lot.

Despite the claim, witnesses told police that 24-year-old Gregory Shedd, who died early Sunday morning in Bowlero on Bunker Hill Road, was not carrying a firearm at the time and was already trying to break up the fight.

The details are part of the Dionate Desmond Banks shipping document. The 29-year-old is charged with premeditated murder for the murder of Shedd but is not in custody as of Friday.

Original story: A man is murdered outside a bowling alley in Bunker Hill

Eyewitness news reported the day Thursday some details from court filings That took place outside the business in West Houston where he met Shedd and his girlfriend, mother and aunt.

An Instagram post from a person claiming to be Banks stated that he was defending a woman who was beaten by a man that night, ABC13 reported from an excerpt from the indictment document.

The Instagram post said there was no intention of anyone committing suicide and also includes a photo of an HPD visitor badge with banks’ information on it from Tuesday. This Instagram account has since been deleted.

From the full court filing, police called Banks after the shooting when he told investigators he was “right” to open fire on Shedd because he was defending a woman in the fight.

In a police interview Tuesday with his present attorney, Banks again claimed his defense of the woman involved in the fight as well as himself based on what he said Shedd shouted at him. However, court documents indicate that Banks said he did not see a pistol or weapon in Shedd’s hand, but saw that he had something in his hand and did not know what it was.

When Shedd’s mother, Medisha Bush, spoke to Eyewitness News on Thursday, she admitted to the Instagram post and insisted her son wasn’t hitting anyone.

The full court filing states that Shedd was also defending a family member, his aunt, who was beaten by the same woman Banks claimed to be protecting. This was confirmed by several witnesses, including one who recorded the melee. This video was shown to the police, who described Shedd as the apparent peacemaker at first before running towards his aunt getting beaten up.

The video also captured Shead throwing a punch, but the obstructed view doesn’t specify who was hitting. At this point, Banks appears to have pulled the trigger twice on Shedd, hitting him in the back and face, according to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

What the banks’ fee document doesn’t explain is why the fight started.
