Roy Rogers was born Leonard Franklin Sly on November 5, 1911 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Matty and Andrew. Soon he moved with his family to a houseboat to Portsmouth, where they bought land to build a house. However, the Great Flood of 1913 put a wrench in the plans, and the family ended up living in their homestead instead. Later, in 1919, the family moved to a farm near Lucasville. There, they created their own entertainment by hosting square dances for neighbors. During this time the young Rogers developed his singing and singing skills. Personal life and death
In 1933, Rogers married his first wife, Lucille Ascoles. They eventually divorced in 1936. He subsequently married Grace Wilkins, who offered him a call to a radio station in Roswell, New Mexico. The couple adopted a daughter named Cheryl, and had a daughter named Linda and a son named Roy Jr. Wilkins, and he died during the birth of the last child in 1946. The following year, Rogers married actress and singer Dale Evans, whom he met on the set of “Cowboy and the Señorita.” 1944. The two were known for their charitable work on behalf of disabled and homeless children. They also adopted a number of children. Rogers and Evans lived on a 300-acre ranch in the San Fernando Valley, and later moved to a 67-acre ranch in Apple Valley.
