Teenage Dirtbag Challenge has been upgraded by Wheatus

The Tiktok trend “Teenage Dirtbag Challenge” is back last year, and this time, Wheatus is involved. This trend encourages users to share photos of youthful, and usually embarrassing, fashion decisions set to Wheatus’s 2000 mega tune. While she has been trending quite a bit in the past year, this time around, she seems to have caught the attention of more celebrities outside of Tiktok, who are sharing her on Tiktok as well as Twitter and Instagram. The bigger it gets, the more spreadable and less fluffy it is expected to be than a ‘dirt bag’, but with Wheatus slicing something together, it makes the whole thing sound more relatable to the original tune, sure.

Many of the photos in the Wheatus video are of the band members playing and recording music, as you’d probably expect. The band’s official account shared it, along with a lengthy explanation thanking fans for their participation in several “Teenage Dirtbag” posts recently.

“It means a lot to us,” the caption read in part. “Amidst all the excitement of keeping up with your videos and comments, we’re working as hard as we can here at Wheatus HQ: finishing the mashup for a 1 album re-release, preparing for our US tour, and planning a further international tour next year.”

You can watch their video below.

The latest “Challenge” has attracted celebrities like Adrianne Palicki, Tara Reid, and Demi Lovato, as well as dozens of your high school friends who have no doubt rummaged through their photos to make sure you’re not accidentally embarrassed.

“We can’t believe how widely this trend has established itself and we’re so grateful and happy to have so many people communicating about how this song has impacted your life,” Wittus wrote.

Wheatus was formed in 1995, and they have been independent for most of their careers. Five years after they met, “Teenage Dirtbag” hit like an atomic bomb. Since then, he has appeared in films like loser And the Bullyand TV series like GirlbossAnd the kill generationAnd the Sabrina’s Spooky Adventures. It has been certified multi-platinum in various countries around the world, and has sold 5 million copies worldwide, as of 2014 when numbers were last announced. It was also recently shown on Episode of One Hit Thunderwhom Waitos loved so much that Matthew Milligan of the band became a frequent guest on subsequent episodes of the show.
