You know, for a while, Predator movies used to be the most “masculine” movies fueled by multiplexes of testosterone. Big guns (both muscle and assorted weapons), a horrific beast, and men running through the woods have always been seen as Manly STUFF. But, it was in the ’80s and ’90s, when the whole concept of “masculinity” was clarified as one special thing.
But now, with movies like victimWe live in an age where badass action movies aren’t a boys-only club anymore and are defined by gender. Fortunately, we now live in an age where notable feminist figures can no longer be counted in one respect. Yes, we still have a long way to go, but we have made some progress, if only a little.
And while I realize some people might just yell “WOKE!” As for this introduction, I mostly think it’s great that the Predator series has been able to adapt and change over the years, just like the titular Predator himself. However, with 7 Predator related movies out there, which is the best of all? Well, you are about to find out.
7. Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)
Directed by Brothers Strause, and serving as a direct follow-up to the original AvP, this bleak sequel is about an alien/predatory hybrid on the loose (a former alien, if you will), and a single predator who needs to wipe out any aliens (and people) that get in his way.
Alien vs Predator: Requiem, which I reviewed several moons ago, is rated R, but I don’t know why because you can barely see anything. I mean, seriously the lighting in this movie is awful! However, everything else about the awful, poorly lit fight scenes is also awful, with the human characters smelly, the setting bland, and the plot inducing yawns. I recently watched all the Predator movies again a few weeks ago in preparation for victimAnd, I legit forgot I watched this movie again before writing this list. This is the extent of forgetting.
6. Predator (2018)
Directed by Shane Black, who was already in the original film, 2018 predator He tried to do something different, but ended up falling on his wild face instead. Starring a very cool ensemble of Olivia Munn, Keegan Michael Key, Boyd Holbrook and many others, predator It features a plot in which predators have augmented themselves with human DNA, but come to Earth when a boy wears their armor as a Halloween costume. I’m seriously dead.
predator It is the most polarizing movie in the entire series. Some, like Dirk Libby, said in his book predator Review that it was “an entertaining enough sequel,” while others feel it’s the absolute rock bottom of the series. Personally, I’m somewhere in the middle.
The plot, which revolves around everything from autism to climate change, is a mess. But, it does have its own set, like some humor and action. However, it is very similar to a file The Fantastic Four Film with Michael B. Jordan (which I kind of love), the movie completely falls apart in the third act, shattering all the fun in the earlier parts of the movie. Oh, okay. It’s bad, but it isn’t alien vs predator requiem Too bad because at least I can see what’s going on in this movie.
5. Alien vs. Predator (2004)
Written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, This Dream Match That Started in the Comics (Ah, Hello! I’m Still Waiting RoboCop vs Terminator movie cross), aliens and predators fight each other in the cold at the pyramid. What else do you want to know?
AvP’s drawbacks come in the fact that a) it lags a lot with a PG-13 rating, and b) its setting doesn’t really benefit either character. It’s also a huge disappointment given the hype of these two legendary franchises together. When anyone asks me how I feel about AvP, I always give them the same response: Freddy vs. Jason do it better. And they did. AvP average mid at best, barrel down at worst.
4. Predators (2010)
Directed by Nimrod Antal and starring Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Mahershala Ali and many others, Predators He finds a mercenary (Brody) and a group of other dangerous people on a distant planet as predators (hence the title) are trying to kill them. Beautiful ordinary things.
In fact, it’s probably quite standard as Predators It is the middle of the road for me. I know there are some people who find Predators To be taken lightly, it certainly has its moments – I especially love the amazing way the movie opens – but overall, that’s okay. I don’t hate it, I don’t like it. It’s just a movie. with predators in it. next one.
3 – Predator 2 (1990)
Directed by Stephen Hopkins and starring Danny Glover, Gary Posey, Bill Paxton, predator 2 The movie takes place ten years after the first movie, and after the Predator witnesses a gang confrontation with the police, he takes his abilities to the streets of Los Angeles to take part in the action. I’m not the first person to tell this joke, but this predator is in a new forest this time – THE CONCRETE JUNGLE. Yes, it wasn’t very smart the first time either.
predator 2 It was my second favorite predator A movie until recently, but honestly, that doesn’t mean much considering the other movies. still, predator 2 It has a lot going for it, as the urban environment is effective here, and the Predator effects are really cool in this movie. I also like Danny Glover as the protagonist, as he is a sharp contrast to Arnold in the original. predator 2 It’s spiky and silly, and for that, I really dig it. it is fun.
2- Bree (2022)
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, starring Amber Midthunder, Michelle Thrush, Dean Delegrew. victim The series goes back to 1719, when the Comanche tribe was attacked by fur hunters. Oh, and the predator. Fur hunters and predators. In the midst of it all, a female Comanche warrior (Midthunder) is kicking her asses to prove to herself and her tribe as well that she’s the most badass of them all.
victim It is without a doubt the second best Predator movie. In fact, Dirk Libby saw in his review that victim It is “the best Predator movie in years, probably ever.” And I agree…it’s the best Predator movie in years. It is very refreshing. Setting her deep in the past and showing the land predator on her first hunt provides great balance to our heroine’s storyline. The setting is great too, which makes me want more Predator movies in the past. victim It’s excellent, but really, one Predator movie could be the best.
1. Predator (1987)
Directed by John McTiernan and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Karl Withers, Jesse Ventura (meaning it starred two former Governors), and a few others, the original predator It is about a group of alpha males who go into the woods on a rescue mission, only to discover that they are being chased by a deadly alien. Simple but effective.
I know how you could have used a screed earlier on how the whole concept of masculinity was dated in 2022, but yeah. predator It is a super manly movie. I mean, there’s a whole scene where two ass guys fight through the air to prove their strength. How much pee quiz do you need? And the thing about the first Predator is that commit For this idea of masculinity, it even makes it important to subvert the plot. Because in that movie, Arnold, who was the biggest action hero on the planet at the time, wasn’t the predator, but the prey, and that made you really nervous about a guy who might kill an SUV in his car. president. Like, if that piece of beef can’t take out a predator, who can?
That contrast, and the fact that the Predator movie takes so long to actually reveal itself, makes this movie legendary, and ultimately, the greatest Predator movie ever. And I honestly find it hard to believe that any other Predator movie, no matter how good it is, would beat it.
And this is the list. But what is for you the favorite predator Movie? For more news on all things predator, be sure to swing by here often!
