Another week, another iOS 16 beta update, as Apple continues to improve its iPhone software update ahead of the full release expected in a few weeks.
iOS 16 beta 7 is available to developers now, and the public beta is likely to appear in 24 hours, if Apple follows the same pattern it used with iOS 16 beta 6, which was released just a week ago. The new version of iOS 16 continues to speed up the pace of beta updates – usually a sure sign that the full version is ready for prime time use.
In fact, the iOS 16 beta 7 version arrives a few days after the release Bloomberg report (Opens in a new tab) Apple engineers have finished working on iOS 16, with a software update in September alongside watchOS 9. Meanwhile, iPadOS 16 has been officially delayed, as Apple confirmed that iPads won’t receive its software update until after iOS 16 arrives.
Reports last week indicated the September 7 date for Apple’s upcoming September event, when the company should take the covers off the iPhone 14. Given Apple’s previous record, major iOS updates usually arrive a few days before new phones. With Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman putting September 16 as the iPhone 14’s sale date, that means iOS 16 will be available sometime that week. In other words, we’re about three weeks away from the iOS launch.
As a result, you won’t find many new features in iOS 16 beta 7, if you find any at all. Apple only notes that Bugfixes and Improvements are included in this release, with Full release notes (Opens in a new tab) Provide more details about what has been modified. The iOS 16 beta 6 update last week was similarly devoid of new additions, with the biggest change being a tweak to the battery percentage indicator returning to the home screen in iOS 16.
Our iOS 16 public beta details the biggest changes that are coming with this software update. iOS 16 lets you customize your iPhone’s lock screen, adding widgets that show temperature, upcoming appointments, and other details. A number of the built-in apps are gaining new features such as the ability to edit texts in messages or capture text from videos using iOS 16’s Live Text capabilities. The new Fitness app arrives with iOS 16, with Maps, Safari, Photos and other returning apps seeing a series of improvements .
You can download the iOS 16 public beta now – the software is very polished, and I am now using iOS 16 on my daily iPhone. But even if you’re not ready to install beta software on your phone, the arrival of iOS 16 beta 7 this week means you won’t have long to wait for the final product.
