Percy Jackson and the Olympians Big production week continues. The serial adaptation of Rick Riordan’s bestselling books ventured into Westminster Pier Park in New Westminster, British Columbia yesterday to film the famous Gateway Arch scene that takes place in lightning thief Chapter 13. Author Rick Riordan, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, took to Instagram to share a photo of himself relaxing in his trailer. In the caption, Riordan joked that the production would take place in the woods today.
“Today’s on-site safety instructions include ‘What to do if a bear attacks you for food,'” Riordan wrote. “Do you think anyone would notice if you sat in a comfortable chair in the trailer today?”
Riordan then updated the caption, stating that he and Percy Jackson The crew watched “One black bear and her cubs” during filming.
Production in the jungle is nothing new Percy Jackson, where much of what was filmed in Vancouver’s StageCraft ventured into the surrounding woods. Book lovers will know that the wilderness is where demigods will find Half-Blood Camp, the sanctuary of children of Greek gods (not children of Roman gods) in the woods of Long Island, New York. While the series maintains production in western Canada, the recreation of the Empire State Building in New York in the area indicates that the New York setting is still true of all Greek mythology.
For specific scenes shot in the woods of the location, possibilities range from anything revolving around Camp Half-Blood to Aunty Em’s Emporium. While Medusa’s lair isn’t necessarily hidden in the woods, its location away from a “deserted two-lane road through trees” isn’t exactly on public display. Medusa’s separation happens just before the portal arc, so it would make sense for the team to fill in that gap if they hadn’t already shot it.
