Sokoto State Police Command has re-arrested student Aliu Sonusi Omar, who toppled the car of her colleague Fatima Suleiman, resulting in the amputation of one of her legs, hours after her final exam.

On Monday, August 22, the investigating judge returned the culprit at Sokoto Correctional Facility until next Monday when the case will be taken up for further hearing.

Fatima, a 16-year-old final year student at the International Model Khalifa located along Nana Asmau Sokoto Road, was attacked on school graduation day last week.

It was learned that Fatima and her friends walked out of the exam hall after writing their final exams, with joy, exchanging contacts and signing signatures.

During this joyous moment she received a call from her mother that she was on her way to pick her up.

Speaking to the Daily Trust, Fatima said that she and her friends then went and sat outside the school building waiting for her mother.

At that moment, a student from another school came in his car to show off some exciting driving.

“I was sitting with my friends when the guy came at high speed and splashed standing water on us. We reported him to our school authority and were told to leave the area.

“But instead of heeding their warning, he continued his stunt and then lost control of the car. We tried to escape but unfortunately for me, I missed a step and fell and the car ran over one of my legs but my two friends were lucky to survive unharmed,”

She said, “I was then taken to the Trauma Center at Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital where the doctors concluded after examination that my two limbs should be amputated in order to save my life.”

Fatima said that her ambition is to become a doctor, adding that what happened to her will not prevent her from achieving her ambition.

“I nurtured this aspiration for a long time because my dad is a doctor. I wrote JAMB this year and got a score of 230.”

Her father, Dr. Suleiman Sabah, said he was in his office at the Federal Medical Center in Gosau when his daughter called him another number around 2.30pm.

“When I picked up the call, I heard her crying saying ‘Dad is back, I’m dying.’ Then I asked her what happened and she said someone hit her with their car before the phone went off.

“I called the line again and the owner told me what had happened to my daughter and that he and the school management had taken her to UDUTH for treatment. Then I then tried to contact her mother who works at the hospital but to no avail. So, I called someone in the hospital who told her (mother) what happened and I met him In the trauma center

“When I got it later, she told me that one of Fatima’s legs was seriously injured and the doctors were considering amputating her. I said no, I don’t want to amputate my daughter’s leg. Then I asked her to get me a doctor on demand, and she pleaded with him to do everything in his power to save his leg, but he He told me that the damage was greater than the salvation

“I asked him to connect me with the head of the department, Dr. Muhammad, who also confirmed that they were preparing to take her to the operating room to have her amputated, but I asked them to stick

“I called a friend who works with Dala Orthopedic Hospital and asked for a picture of the leg and after seeing the pictures he also concluded that the damage is irreversible. I have to take heart and allow the amputation. So I gave them my approval.

The driver was later arrested and brought before the Magistrate’s Court, which released him on bail on Thursday, August 18.

It was reliably gathered that the case was also withdrawn from the judge who had previously released the offender on bail.

The police also amended the charges for the second time, and the new charges included severe injury.

Meanwhile, the wife of Sokoto state governor, Hajia Maria Tambol, on Monday visited Fatima and pledged her support in overcoming the trauma.

Ms. Tambol, sympathizing with the victim and her family over the tragic accident, advised them to be brave and accept the situation as an event, God willing.

The victim assured Ms. Tambuwal that she has accepted the test and is ready to move forward after medical treatment.
