When twin brothers (Cameron and Nicholas Croveti) arrived at their mother’s (Naomi Watts) home to discover her face covered in bandages—the result of recent plastic surgery, she explains—they immediately sensed that something wasn’t adding up. She sets weird new house rules, smokes in her bathroom, and secretly tears up a drawing they gave her—things their adorable mom would never do. As her behavior grows increasingly strange and erratic, a terrifying idea takes root in the boys’ minds: the sinking suspicion that the woman under the gauze, who prepares her food and sleeps in the next room, is not their mother at all.

While the new movie might be described somewhat as a reimagining, Watts confirmed to ComicBook.com earlier this year that it “still is definitely a terrible movie.”
