Spoilers in front of the August 23 episode of american talents Season 17.
american talents I entered week three of the qualifiers with eleven other contestants (including Golden Bell winner Simon Cowell) which will be reduced to two after the voting ends. This episode brought back XOMG POP! Girls singers and dancers group assembled by If you think you can dance Judge Jojo Siwa and her mother. While they brought energy and excitement, Howie Mandel’s comments weren’t 100% favorable to them. Speaking to CinemaBlend, Mandel explained why he wanted to make a point with his comments.
XOMG POP! It consists of seven girls between the ages of 10 and 15: Liga, Kinley, Bella, Tinny T, Dallas, Kia and Brooklyn. After their original song “Candy Hearts” in May introduced them to the playoffs, Merry Go Round’s song live on August 23 wasn’t an immediate hit. Simon Cowell said he “personally” did not like the song (although he considered it “unstoppable” with the appropriate material). For his part, Howie Mandel said the tune “hurts him” but acknowledged that XOMG’s music is POP!
When Mandel (who recently considered watching the live stream in person versus at home) spoke with CinemaBlend and other outlets after the live qualifier episode, I mentioned that he indicated that he’s not the target audience for XOMG POP! Immediately after they performed, he replied:
Given that Howie Mandel wasn’t alone on the judges panel in not liking the song because it wasn’t directed at him, it would be a little confusing! While Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Terry Cruz were excited, Mandel touted his praise by citing his granddaughter, a fan of the girl group on AGT. When asked if having such a specific demographic appeal (which clearly does not include either Mandel or Simon Cowell) would affect the girls’ chances of winning first prize, Mandel weighed in, saying:
Howie Mandel’s comments were not intended to dissuade voters from supporting XOMG POP! Or say the girl squad didn’t give their energetic performance, even though it wasn’t as complimenting as some of his fellow judges have said. (My personal favorite was Heidi Klum saying “It’s like a pinata exploding and seven little Spice Girls falling.” If only Mel B had been there to hear it like the old days!)
He’s not the world’s biggest fan of XOMG POP! , but it looks like they’re going to get all his granddaughter’s votes. Even if the majority of the voting audience does not fall into the target demographic for this girl group, there may be enough audience to push them to the end. Check out their performance on “Merry Go Round” that will decide if they still have a chance with a million dollars and a Las Vegas stage show or go home:
Will this girl group keep chasing them AGT The dream, or will their journey in Season 17 end early? Their fate is in the hands of fans who can vote with the official american talents app and NBC.com voting page Until 7 a.m. ET on Wednesday, August 24. The results episode will begin broadcasting at 8 PM ET, so there’s no time for votes to be cast and then counted at prime times!
It’s hard to speculate with any certainty as to who will come forward, although I may have to re-evaluate my ranking for american talents The Gold Award winners are the most likely to win after watching Sarah James drop the house with her performance of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” as the final chapter of the night. Ventilated speaker Celia Munoz was the judges favorite with her honour fat The late Olivia Newton-John and Howie Mandel predicted that magician Nicholas Reps could win the entire season after watching his latest performance.
Both points are ready to grab at this point, so be sure to watch the results episode on Wednesday, August 24 at 8 p.m. ET to see who’s AGT Dreams will remain. New playoffs will air every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. You can also rewatch previous episodes streamed with a Peacock subscription.
